Uh oh did I wreck it?

Hey all! I just finished hooking up my new exhaust after my engine swap I had run the engine before but not for very long as it had no exhaust. So the other day I started it up and the neighbour came out and was talking about my truck blah blah blah 5 minutes later I think I'll check the gauges and stuff to make sure all is well. HOLY SH*T the temp gauge is pegged to the right I turn off the truck and let it cool down. Now it didn't look that hot or run any differently no steam or anything. How much damage could I have done? I figured out there was air in the cooling system not allowing the thermostat to open and making if overheat. I solved this problem and it seems to run fine now but I keep finding little droplets of antifreeze under the motor. Possibly from changing thermostat but there were a few drops in the flexplate cover? Do you guys think I cracked the block? After a visual inspection the engine looks fine but there are a lot of crevasses and hard to see spots. I checked the oil it looks fine not milky.

What do you guys think lol gimme some peace of mind

Probably nothing hurt. If it didn't steam out the cap, then you didn't get that hot.

Thats the answer I was looking for lol. I worry!

Way off topic now, N2 Have you ever seen someone put a tailgate band like yours on an 81-87 truck? Does it look tacky or does it suit? I'm kind of against mixing model years but I love the look of your tailgate band! Thanks for the quick reply!

I don't remember seeing one on an 81-87 but I don't think it would look bad. I agree on the mix-n-match trim, but I think the Cheyenne band would work. If you have the band on the back of your cab it should be a close match to that.

Re: Uh oh did I wreck it?

your exhaust is not puttting water vapor out is it and just keep an eye on the antifreeze level.

Re: Uh oh did I wreck it?

The exhaust does put out some water vapor but it's also -25 Celsius outside so i'm assuming some moisture would be created. but yeah it does drip a little out the tail pipe. Should I worry bout it?

Re: Uh oh did I wreck it?

being that cold you will get a little water out the pipe, or so i would think so. maybe pressure check it, if it is leaking it could be a frostplug or something easy it takes some major heat to crack a small block

wipe every thing off, put a preasure tester on the radiator and let it sit for while, if there's crack ( highly doubtfull ) or bad freeze plug the gauge will drop pretty quickly and you should be able to find the leak.
with it be'n as cold as it is your gonna get moisture out of exhaust tip's.
I'm guess'n every thing will be fine.

Re: Uh oh did I wreck it?

With it being that cold you will get a little with the truck running put you hand down there and let the vapor blow into it then see if it smells of antifreeze. I would say you are probably ok though. Watch the coolant level in the Radiator if you cracked a head or block it will leave fast enough you can tell it after driving it some

Re: Uh oh did I wreck it?

sure was cold out,-33C
run it a bit for heat, use a bucket of hot water and rags to wipe under it
but look around carefully i've seen them crack around the engine mount (fine lines)
hope not tho

I hope not too lol, The engine is squeaky clean I cleaned it up and painted it when I swapped it. I'll take a peak around it tonight.

Re: Uh oh did I wreck it?

I don't think you hurt it. I did just a little worse. I put some heads on our tow car and didn't put water in until after I ran the valves (Running). Oil was sizzling on the heads!!!!!!!!!!! I don't smoke any of the funny stuff any more lol
