Gas pedal mods
After installing the kickdown cable bracket, my stock gas pedal lever on the engine side of the firewall is not working as freely as it should.
Has anyone installed a later model gas pedel assembly from a 70's or 80's pickup? If you have pics to show that would be great. This is something I had in mind. http://www.ebay.com/itm/85-86-87-CHE...item2c61bfa291

Re: Gas pedal mods
Don't have any input to offer regarding the later pedal assembly, but it sounds like you may have a problem with the kickdown cable install. I used a standard (cheap) version of the Chevy 350 Lokar kickdown cable and bracket and it worked perfectly for 15 years with the stock gas pedal linkage, until I pulled the cable when I swapped back to a stick shift transmission.

Re: Gas pedal mods
I used the gas pedal from an 87 suburban for my 5.3 swap. I just looked and don’t have any pics of the install (truck stored for the winter) but it wasn’t hard. I bolted it onto place, then drilled a hole for the cable. I also remember using a small file to square up the hole to better fit the cable to the firewall.
I also remember buying a pedal from a 70-72 truck but preferred the later style. I think it had something to do with the way the pedal is bent. I do remember both would have worked though Graham

Re: Gas pedal mods
Can you tell us what was in there before that...it may be just an alignment issue!

Re: Gas pedal mods
It appears to be the stock pedal and lever assembly. I will take and post pics tonight when I get home.

Re: Gas pedal mods
i put a 72 pedal assemby in mine, the rough firewall is where i made room for my tall valve covers, the square hole i made by drilling a 1/2 hole and used a small flat file to make the corners, hope this helps.

Re: Gas pedal mods
Thanks Flip! Thats what im looking to do.
Here is a pic from the inside. Here are a few from the engine side. You can see the interference I am getting between the kickdown cable bracket and the throttle linkage. It works, but I would like it to work better. Currently the lever between the rod connected the carb and the firewall moves up and back when pressing the pedal. It hits the spark plug wires and other dist wires. Im looking for a setup like the later models that use a cable and pulls straight back. Thanks again for the input!!

Re: Gas pedal mods
If not can't you just adjust lengthen the rod and move the rod back some? I had this setup on my Nova and it worked out wel.. I even had the cables ran behind the rod and never had an issue. There really isn't alot of travel needed for that lever.
Or you can have a rod that sits flat then at the last 2" bend it down then back again. This would keep your lever more vertical instead of a 45 it's at now I cable option will fix it I'm just saying you can make something work with your current setup.

Re: Gas pedal mods
I like the Lokar option too, but I need a low buck fix for now.

Re: Gas pedal mods
I used the Locar option, it works but I would like something a little less bling and more stock looking, I know, I know, Picky Sh1t!

Re: Gas pedal mods
I would rather have my plug wires routed under the linkage like you have there. If I get the wires lower and the linkage up higher, that will solve my issue.
Thanks for the input.
