What happened to my 1969 GMC?
Here is what I am assuming.. I have my truck in for paint, I picked up some parts that I need for my 69 GMC. I got a 1969 left front fender, a 1969 hood and a 1969 radiator support. The body shop did a test fit using my original right front fender and that fender is about 1 1/2 inches too long for the hood. My original hood measures 45" along the side. So I am thinking my truck got wrecked and it had a 1968 GMC nose put on it. The vin number is 1969. I think if I get a 1969 right fender everything will be ok?
Thanks |

Do you have the grill on the truck? The GMC fenders are all of the same length and they are about 1 1/2' longer then the chevy fenders. The hood does not extend to the front of the fenders. From what you are saying I would suspect that your original fender is a chevy fender.

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
The gmc fenders are the same as 67-68 Chevys which are about 1 1/2" longer than 69-72 chevy fenders. All 69-72 hoods are the same. Sounds to me Luke the original fender and new hood are right but you got a 69-72 chevy fender.

Yes, youve got a 69-72 chevy fender. Lots of people assume they are all the same. I was in the dark on this point until recently myself.

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
As stated above all 68-72 GMC fenders are the same. 69-72 Chevy fenders do not interchange with the GMC fenders. I agree with the others it sounds like you have a 69-72 Chevy fender.
The hood on the truck below is a 69-72 GMC hood.

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
Thanks for the info but the "new" hood and fender I got match to the radiator support and my "original" fender is too long the one on the passenger side as seen above . So the hood and fender I bought are Chevy but could my original fender be a 68? That is the fender that is too long. The radiator support is supposed to be 1969 GMC. I am attaching the thread for the GMC support, and picture of my truck as I got it.

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
The picture above appears to have stock 69 GMC parts on it.
69-72 Chevy and GMC hoods are all exactly the same. 67-68 Chevy and GMC hoods slope down at the front and are a little shorter than 69-72 Chevy and GMC hoods. Is your new hood a 67-68 hood? Here is how fenders work: 67-72 GMC and 67-68 GMC fenders are the same, the only difference is that 67 fenders have no marker hole but that makes no difference with the length. 69-72 Chevy fenders are all the same, the difference from the above fenders is that they have an indentation the the grill surround fits into. Edit: A 67-68 Chevy/GMC hood is about 1.5" longer than a 69-72 Chevy/GMC hood.

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
Here are some pictures that sameyrasmea72 posted a month ago. They show you the difference between the two fender styles. The top is 67-68 Chevy and 67-72 GMC, bottom 69-72 Chevy.

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
So according to that picture there, my 69 gmc has chevy fenders on it, wich would explain why eye brow trip pieces around the grill are missing off the fronts of the fenders...because there is no place to mount them because its the wrong style fender. So i have no place to mount the new eye brow trim pieces on my fenders when they come in? Anyone know of any way to fit the 69 gmc grill with the chevy fenders and have it look decent or does anyone need some nice chevy fenders? I think they are new replacements.

Ah, the set backs in this project never end. I like my four eyes way to much to switch her to chevy grill, looks like in the fender market.

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
Ok I think I bought a 1968 hood, the hood I took off measures about 45" along the edge next to the fender. What does a 68 hood measure?
Thanks |

Re: What happened to my 1969 GMC?
I don't know, but the GMC/'68 Chevy fenders will line up at the front. I read your first post again and see you are saying your body man did a test fit with the original fender and it looks 11/2" short of the front of the hood. That's with your old hood, right? The 69-72 hoods are that much shorter. If they fit it up without the grille with the 69-72 upper surround on it will appear too short. The 69-72 upper grille surround makes up for the shorter 69-72 hoods. 69-72 Chevy 1pc grille surrounds do the same thing, but use fenders that are stepped down for the grille to lay over and "appear" to be in front of the fenders. See the picture of the orange & while Chevy above.
You also said in your original post your original hood measures 45". It's a 69-72 hood and the 67/68 hood will be longer, like 46 1/2"
