Wheel and lowering question

I hope this is the right place for this. My truck has 8" rallys with 275-60-15s all the way around. It's supposed to be stock height but doesn't look it to me. Anyway, I'm wanting to put 15x10 rallys with a 4.5" backspace on the rear and a 4-6 drop. My question is what size tire combo would look good with this and would I have any problems with rubbing? Also what company would be the best for the drop kit? I want to do static drop without doing a c-notch. Any help is greatly appreciated.

For 15x10's on a 71-72 housing, I'd recommend 5" back spacing.

To maintain a similar tire height as the 275's but altering wheels widths, I'd run the 275's on the 10's in the rear & swap some 225-70's to the 8's for use on the front. This would keep the F/R heights pretty close as well as the tire vs wheel width.

For the drop, Early Classic Enterprises offers a nice 4/6 drop kit & many love their products. CPP also offers static drop kits but I would go through a distributor before dealing w/them 1st hand (check Porterbuilt Direct for specials). Another option is POL (Performance Online).

I believe ScottI is right but don't know if you will be able to go 6 rear witout a C notch, a 5" for sure but not a 6". I have just done a 5" static rear on a 69 and man is it close.

What are the closest items that might contact?
6" rear drop is possible w/o a notch as several board members here have done it. The 5" drop definitely allows the additional clearance but it's one of those 'on the fence' type issues.

IMO, it's easy enough to go back & do the notches if the owner feels it's needed. Porterbuilt & CPP each offer nice, HD, bolt-in notches.

So would running these tire sizes give the truck the skinny front wide rear tire look? Or is there some other sizes that would give that look because thats the look I'm trying to get and stay with a 4-6 drop

Yes, the sizes listed would help w/that look.

A slightly narrower 6.5" van ralley or 7" truck ralley would work better w/the rear 10" ralleys for the big/little hot-rod appearance.

Well I already have the 8" on the truck so I think I may get a pair of 10" and see what it looks like. Thanks for all the help!

I assumed this would be the case. My initial tire size recommendation should give a similar appearance for front & rear.

I like the big/little look but also prefer the tires to be somewhat consistent if possible (I don't like a 5" difference between the heights or the tires stretched on one set of wheels while they're pinched on the other).

I based the suggestion on what you currently had to ease costs....

275-60's = 28" tall & would yield 1.08" of tire surface width per inch of wheel width. Recalculating w/the 8" width yields a tire @ 219mm. The closest available size that commonly matches that number & height is the 225-70 (1.10" of tire surface width per inch of an 8" wheel & 27.4" tall).
