Anyone have LS motor and Mustang II front end?

I just got the motor running tonight and the rack shook violently and appears to have blown the seals. From what I've learned, GM pumps are too strong for Ford racks. Fluid is all over the garage floor and the reservoir is dry. Steering was neutral and shouldn't be under any pressure so why would the rack blow?

Did this occur with anyone else? How did you solve?

Good news: motor runs real good.

even if you are not turning the rack, its still under 1200psi. the ford rack needs about 700 to 800 psi.use borgeson part #899001 pressure reducing shim kit.it about $17.00 through summit, jegs or amazon.i think its a 1 inch nut on the back of the pump.remove that and i used a pen magnet to pull the internal flow valve out. then follow the instruction on the kit.my factory flow valve didnt have any shims installed from the factory.i used 4 shims and it seemed a little sensitive at high speed, but it a little different for each application.

i tried to find my fatman manual, i think he had a note that if your rack did that, your hoses were reversed.
i will look more later.

i run a gm pump. the gm pump works but makes the ford rack a little too sensitive.
i've driven truk 5000 miles with the gm pump, though i do need to install the pressure reducer kit.

Just run the piece that screws into the back of your pump that converts the chevy 3gpm to the ford 2gpm. It is like a $20-25 part. You can get them from billet specialties, speedway motors and a lot of other places.

Re: Anyone have LS motor and Mustang II front end?

Thanks all. I believe you are correct and the problem is I had the hoses reversed. DUMB mistake. I got the old rack out tonight but it took me 2 hours. Not sure how it's going to go back in but the good thing is the part is cheap, only $79 so not an expensive mistake. Hopefully, this will work out. The truck runs very nice.

Thanks, I'll pick one of those up after I get the new rack installed.
