someone broke into my garage

Well didn't break in, the door was not locked and they just walked in. I had fired up the furnace Saturday night to warm the panels to paint Sunday morning and the person turned my furnace off. No tools or anything missing. I painted the panels later in the week and went to install the driver door, and it looks like they tried to pull my extension ladder down and dropped it from the ceiling and hit and dented my A pillar. not bad, but enough to piss me off. the truck is still in primer so not the end of the world, but why would they take my ladder and put it back, or try to take it. maybe when they dropped it they bolted, but it was still hanging up. I don't get it. However a great slap in the face to tell me to LOCK my garage. thank god nothing was really damaged or stolen

Re: someone broke into my garage

If this were me, I'd blame my wife.

1. She calls my truck the other woman.
2. I swear the woman could freeze a polar bear out of our house in the winter and drive the devil out in the summer. But hey, I have low utility bills.

Re: someone broke into my garage

That makes very little sense!

Unless if they were just checking out the inventory and are planning on coming back later.

Is there a chance that a neighbor or family member was just going to borrow the ladder?

Why would they turn off the furnace?

Re: someone broke into my garage

At least they cared enough to turn off the furnace in concern that you might burn your garage down. Do you have kids, that sounds like something I would have done when I was 11-12 years old. Kids will never tell when they damage something or break something.

Re: someone broke into my garage

It's perfectly logical. Thieves are idiots. They stole the ladder to get up on the garage roof so that they could slide down the chimney. When they discovered that there was not a chimney they returned the ladder and left defeated. Oh and tripped over the cord.

Re: someone broke into my garage

I am thinking it was a neighbor. Thought he would borrow it real quick without asking. Saw the heater on, turned it off thinking you had left it on. At that point, he thought he was doing a good deed, and probably had plans of telling you he borrowed it. Then, he dropped the ladder, damaged your truck, and changed his mind so he didnt get caught.

Walk out in your yard and look to see who STILL has their Christmas light up. That's the guilty party.

Re: someone broke into my garage

The crazy thing is I went to the garage to turn the furnace on around 7PM and noticed the break in around 8AM who is going to do Christmas lights between then. the other thing is I have a condo complex in my back yard with a 6' stone wall. that is where the foot prints lead to, and that wall goes down the whole block, if it were neighbor he would have opened the gate and walked in. I don't get it. but a Mosburg 12 gauge pump will fix that. I do have kids 1 & 3. Don't think they could reach the ladder. Door is locked and the gate chained now. going to get motion sensors on my spot lights as well

Re: someone broke into my garage

I know a guy that has a 4 camera system that show's video on a monitor, he says you can hook it all to a computer and it will save video for up to 30 days.
say's the whole system cost a little over $100.
I move'd out of a house for 90 days once for a major remodel, we put every thing we didnt need in the garage. I went one morn'n and some broke the cheap hasp off and took two bicycle's, I fix the hasp and my boy's found the bikes stash'd under a nearby rail road trussel.
the next day I came back to find the whole door torn off and much more miss'n !

Re: someone broke into my garage

It was your wife.

She's tired of you not doing work around the house, only on your truck. She went to get the ladder to do the work and it was too heavy for her and she dropped it on the truck. Not wanting to get in trouble, she put it back up with much effort. That made her hot and she turned off the heater...besides, she was tired of the bills being so much.

Ask her.

Re: someone broke into my garage

Isn't it the worse when they don't steal anything and it's just like...what were they even trying to do? When I first got my 2002 Silverado the door lock solenoids were gummed up from it sitting at the dealership so long so a lot of the time they would take a couple tries to lock or just wouldn't lock at all. Twice someone got it in and just trashed it. And it's not like there's nothing valuable, I had hunting knives, tool kits, etc., just laying around in there, but all they did was take everything out and throw it on the floor, in the seat, etc. Second time they didn't even rummage through stuff, just opened the glove box and then left the door wide open. My guess is they probably got scared off before they were finished that time. Third time they trashed it, broke part of my lower dash (not as if they were trying to get the radio out or anything, it's just a trim panel no where near anything that they deciced to pull off) and did steal something. They ripped the fuzzy dice off my mirror and stole one. That's right, only one. Left the other one. I put up cameras around my entire house after that and havn't had a problem since. Kind of dissapointing actually, I wish they would come back so I would know who the scum bags are.

That's why I have cameras! If someone is goofing around, I get a video text on my phone. It's scary how much goes on around my house when nobody is home.

There is a fine line between prepared, and paranoia.
