Thoughts on Power Steering
Ok, I want your thoughts on this... I know most of these trucks didnt have it to begin with. Im building a poor-mans LS2 for my 71 SWB and Im contemplating not having power steering. Mainly because Im trying to keep my pulleys on my engine to a minimum. Its going to be using a rack & pinion from a 79-93 Mustang(Porterbuilt Dropmember)
Let me hear them!

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
how much are you planning on driving it? The more youre gonna drive it the more creature comforts your gonna want.

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
I have power steering on mine and I don't really care for it, at slow speeds parking lots it's great but it has a tendency to be a little sensitive at highway speeds, I'm driving a short wheel base maybe if it were a long bed it wouldn't be so noticeable but you can't really relax driving. It is not modern steering.

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
Power Steering and power brakes are the two best "driving enjoyment" add-ons you can do to these trucks, in my opinion.

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
I just realized that Id have to wrestle it to get it in its spot in the garage. Hmmm thanks for your opinions!

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
I also think it's a function of how wide a tire you want to run on the front. If you're going for stockers, you can get by w/o it but if you're running wide tires, it becomes more important.

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
I must be getting old, I hate driving the one truck I have (should say had, I just sold it) without power steering. I like tinkering with these trucks, but I also like to drive them. So, to me, the comfort factors of heat/air, power steering, and power brakes is a big plus.

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
I just got a 72 without p.s. and I don't really care to wrestle around the wheel at low speeds. It's getting p.s. with the l.s. swap!

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
I have manual steering on my K20 burb, and it has 12.50 width tires on it as well.
I also have power steering on my K10 SWB, and it has 12.50 width tires also. Driving both, I prefer the manual steering. Parking the manual steering truck is a bit of a work out, but the feel I get from the steering on all other types of driving is far better than the power arrangement.

Re: Thoughts on Power Steering
I say yes to power steering, unless you plan on drag racing the truck alot, then I would say no to PS.
