Fuel pump install

Well I'm getting ready to upgrade the fuel system in the 70 swb. I'm runnin an A1000 aeromotive. My question is..I have a fuel cell in the back of the frame with a sump. I know the pump pushes a lot better then it pulls. Well the sump sits down further then the bottom frame rail. I want to mount the pump the frame rail. I know the pump should be siphon feed. So my outlet line to the pump would have to come up and then over to the pump. Will this create problems feeding the pump so it can push the fuel to the engine? Also this fuel system is a dynamic bypass. Some pics of would be very helpful. Thanks fellas!

Re: Fuel pump install

It should be OK as long as the pump is not mounted more than 5 inches above the sump. You'll have to be vigilant about keeping the level of fuel in the cell higher than the pump so there is enough column pressure in the fuel line from the sump outlet to the pump inlet.

Re: Fuel pump install

Do you have a screen in the tank pre outlet or a filter ?? The areo pumps are not happy about anything going through them..

You did not give much details on what you are using it for.
Is the engine on the bottle ? There is more to a fuel system than just a pump or the location of that given pump. Tons of guys fight with fuel issues and many go back to how they set up the plumbing to start with.

Install filter before and after pump on a # 8 or 10 feed line run to reg and the bottom of reg ( return) # 8 out back to the tank for return. the other into the carb.

Basic system just make sure you keep any bends you have in the system as smooth as you can. Run high quality wire for power and ground..

As for fuel level I recall it being under 10 gallons the issue, for street use. You can buy a controller..

Re: Fuel pump install

That pump should be fed with a -10 with a 100micron pre pump and a 10 or 40 micron post pump .

No need for a controller on a carb set-up .

If the sump is smaller than -10 , drill and tap for 1/2npt .
