NHRA rule book
Can some one post up for 10 maybe 9's as well. I was told that i must have a hoop for the drive shaft, as the massive X in the frame is not going to work??
Whle this is going together will add what I need to be able to run the 10's , I do not recall if I need a cage at that point or not. Been too long. Thanks

Re: NHRA rule book
There's a significant difference in requirements when you go from 10.00 to 9.99 et. If you are a NHRA member, you can go here to electronically download the rulebook. If you're not a member yet, I would recommend becoming one to access a lot the tech information, etc. You'll have to at some point anyway to have your chassis certified and to race at a NHRA member track. http://www.nhra.com/members/login.aspx

Re: NHRA rule book
I did become a member and am waiting on the rule book to show. They stated 7 weeks?? I know about the huge change from the 10 > 9.99 class. Just trying to see what I can do to keep the truck up to date as I go along on this build. Maybe I am missing something, I cannot find anywhere on the site to down load the rule book??

Re: NHRA rule book
They usually do not send the hardcopy version anymore (haven't received a hardcopy version since the 2009 season). The link I posted will take you to the electronic download of the rulebook. Once you have your NHRA membership number, you'll just need to establish a password, and then you can access the information online from that link.

Re: NHRA rule book
I opted to update my deal and with it I should get a hard copy. I did find the online version. PIA to scroll back and forth. Things like I need a NOS vent line out of the cab on the burst side. Still unsure if the X frame will work as the drive shaft hoop. It is way stronger than a 20 dollar hoop from summit or jegs. tire set up, and bearing set up. My old race car was just that a race car, I bought it as a roller minus engine trans, so that was simple..

Re: NHRA rule book
Yes and the X frame would do that and out do any other bought style hoop. Look at what it runs through

Re: NHRA rule book
...but, it needs to be within 6 inches of the center of the U-joint, and be of a .250 thick by 2 inch wide plate, or .875 inch diameter .065 inch thick steel tubing. If the structure is within 6 inches of the U-joint, you should be fine.

Re: NHRA rule book
The track super was just in my shop here from speedworld, I showed him the pic and he stated that it would be fine as well.
My next big buy is a 9 inch rear end. I have my doubts on how long the 8.2 front load is going to take the abuse.

I understand the shaft passes through the frame but it does clearly state 6" from the u-joint. Not preaching but..... have you ever seen a driveshaft come through the floor of a car? I have, its not pretty. |

Re: NHRA rule book
I will re check the distance once its in the truck again. But the 6 inch thing was not the issue. The wanted another hoop as " its in the rule book so you must have one" I get the rule book, but if one is already there and it meets the spec as a hoop then it should work. I am running a TKO trans and it sits way back. I looked up the specs I checked when the one piece shaft was made and the issue was with the new trans the front shaft to the carrier was so short that it was not doable from the shop making the shaft.
Again this was all years ago and I am not 100% sure where that measurement was taken at. As for parts coming apart yes I have seen it along with flywheels etc. I have a quick time housing with the shield to go with it. As far as firebird goes I refuse to run there any longer. Done with that track. Even for the big show the track was still not right. I was laughing at the cars bouncing down the track, I got free tickets so a few of us went down to watch.. Never run Tucson but plan on it, Marv and I plan on running... Again main reason for me to get it right now and not have to bother with it later.

Re: NHRA rule book
They printed copies in 2010 but the tech guys were the only ones that had them . ( I was thinkin I had my pic in the last printed version and got my little bubble busted ...lol) . The divisional websites are a little easier to navigate than the made for fans NHRA.com . Go to NHRADiv7.com it will be more user friendly.
