frame crossmember
referring to the picture, why is the crossmember curved up? could I just run square stock across he end of the frame rails? I want to use this area to mount a gas tank, and if I just move the crossmember to the rear it would interfere with the bed sill..what if I flipped it upside down under the sill?

Re: frame crossmember
+1 spare tire
yes you can remove. Just be sure to take a measurement cause the frame will want to "spring" in a little...

Re: frame crossmember
I did mine with a tube crossmember in the same location that your 2x4 is in but I put the new crossmember in place before removing the original one. I think replacing the stock crossmember is a pretty standard operation on these trucks when you move the gas tank.
