Tire and gear ratio

Hey all -

So my 454 is getting built with the Lunati 60203 cam..oval port heads(290's) I'm trying to decide on tire height to gear ratio.. I know a lot of people are saying wait till you bring it to the track and all but I'm trying to get a rear built and am trying to minimize gear / tire changes.. I did some math and posted it on Chevelle tech.. I got very few responses. TKO-500 transmission 3.27 first gear. What do you guys think?

Transcribed from Team Chevelle

"Ok with 3.42's and a 3.27 first gear that equals 11.1 start line ratio
With 3.55's and a 3.27 first it equals 11.6 SLR
With 3.73's it equals a SLR of 12.19

That didn't take into account tire height. Just rear gear and first gear ratio.

Then this website bumped me to the next part.. which is distance in first gear calculator.. I'm guessing I'll make 500# of torque. Per what I was told earlier in this post. 4100# truck . I'll also use a shift point of 5500 ( maybe too low / too high?)
http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/distancecalc.html

With 3.55's
26.5" tire = 36 feet
27" = 38ft
28"=42ft
29"=47ft
30"=52ft
31"=58ft

With 3.42's
26.5" = 41ft
27"=43ft
28"=48ft
29"=53ft
30"=59ft
31"=65ft

Soo I am by no means a racer. But I would like to have my truck preform well when I decide to bring it to the track ( this is assuming traction actually happens).. or buy expensive tires / gears.. How do I best interpret my results? Am I wanting to try and get to 60 feet in first or hit second before that? What do some of you recommend?"

....End transcription....

I plan on flipping my trailing arms and putting some good bushings in them. QA-1's and springs may also be apart of the plan.

Recommendations? I'm serious. I'm looking for some experience/help on this one so I don't have to do this twice.. gear and tire changes are expensive.
