childs lock possible on these cars?
hi guys,
my oldest daughter, 3 years now, is old enough to open car doors (of course). That is why she now rides in the middle of the back seat in her kid-seat. but within a couple of weeks she will be to old and big for the seat and she will be allowed to just use the normal seat and belt with a little seat like this: I will put 3 point belts in the back, but also wanna make sure she isnt able to open the back doors by herself. is there a way to put some kind of childslock on the back doors? any idea's? or somebody did this?

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
I'm sure you'll want to do more investigating of options, but as a last resort, you could pop off the door panel, and remove the rod that goes to the interior handle. It'll still work from the outside, but not as simple to put back to normal if adults are riding in the back.

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
Can't you just push the lock down (at the top of the door panel)?
Do you think she'll be able to pull up on the lock and then pull the door handle? (not intended to sound harsh - wasn't sure how else to word the question). K

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
If it has power locks the easy solution is to remove the lock rod that goes up from the latch and through the trim panel up top. Just by removing that you'll be able to lock the doors and make the inside handle inop, but if you have adults riding you just don't lock the doors while driving. At least I think that's what I'd do.

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
You would have to drill a hole straight out into the jamb
May have to work with the rod length and angle You can only access it when the door is open but the power locks work the same Posted via Mobile Device

But I think I am going with the idea of: - close lock electrically - cut the top flat with the doors edge, so she cant pull it open by hand!

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
If you cut it flat, it may jamb and not pop ,but you can remove the rod inside incase you want to put it back later
Posted via Mobile Device Oh and you acess the lock with the front door open not the back door

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
Screw a smooth top on instead of something like factory, lock the doors and use some cutters and cut it level with the trim panel then. Or you could just screw a smooth top on and put some grease on it, .

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
This shouldn't be a worry as long as you cut it flat with the door unlocked. Then when locked, the will be a nub of a lock left, which there's a good chance an adult wouldn't be able to grab and pull up on without some sort of tool.

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
no havn't tried it
thats how police cars are worked for the same (no get out) reason if i remember the rod is held by a snap clip undo it,remove it,no cutting ,can be put back while your in there, see how it measures pointing to the front drill at the right angle ,insert the collar/screw in knob, replace a solid plug up top don't have a truck here to try, have doors but they are buried lol and you would want them on to check for clearance/hinges hopeing to get that far in the garage this weekend tho lol somebody got a pic of the pivot point there?

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
I'd just remove the pivot joint at the front of the door as well as the vertical lock rod going up to the knob.
Then get a 3 ft piece of small diameter round stock to replace the horizontal rod, bend it to fit the rear pivot and run it through a small hole in the front leading edge of the door. from there, either thread it to put a knob on it or simply bend the end of the rod down 90* leaving enough clearance to grab it with no dificulty to lock/unlock the back door.

Re: childs lock possible on these cars?
red ...rod to lock @ latch
green ...lock knob rod where the two meet in the door is the piviot he mentions to extend it like in blue, my idea is to use the same pivot and "green" rod turned pointed to the front across instead of up and down,
