Rearend advice?
Nice title right...I have a 71 c10 weekend cruiser no dragstrip with what I assume is a stock rear end (open diff) with 3.08 gears? I am going to swap the sbc for a bbc and I don't know what to do with the rear end will it hold up and do I need/want to go with a posi or limited slip or any other options?..Any advice or suggestions...Thanks

I have a 3:08 posi behind my big block and it's fine, alot better MPG than my old 3:73. Keep it, you'll like it.

What type of transmission you planning to run? Do you have a stall, or plan to use a stall? How much cam in the ole Rat motor? All that would play a part in the rear end gear in my opinion.
You looking for out of the hole power, or more gas mileage / occasional freeway use? I have a 408ci BB, pretty lumpy Lunati cam and 3000 stall in a TH400. I am thinking 3:55 maybe ? .. we'll see. I have never driven mine so, it could go either way. I'm planning to put mine somewhere in the middle.

I think Im going to keep the 308 I guess I should have said that I was looking for advice on posi,limited slip or leave it be? I will be running a built 350turbo and it will have to have a stall 2500 or so...

Depends on what kind of a bbc you are planning on running. Traction is what breaks stuff, pegleg rear doesn't offer much of that.

Its a 496 and will be around 475-500hp but will be used on the street/cruiser

That is a pretty big motor for a cruiser. You can get that out of a 454 without much effort.
You won't get real far real fast in a 496 with a pegleg. That motor could probably eat a 10-bolt's lunch pretty quickly.

Got a great deal on it so I pulled the trigger...Which posi...used,new,junkyard..I know very little about these so any advice will help a ton...
