Show Off Your Rearview Mirror Mods

I'm thinking of upgrading the plain factory rearview mirror to something more modern, maybe with compass and temperature. Would like to see what others have done that works well. Thanks!

Re: Show Off Your Rearview Mirror Mods

I modded a WINK brand 5 panel rear view mirror by adding 2 more panels to it and also added 2 more mounts to the windshield to support it so I had a mirror that reached all the way from pillar to pillar.
Now I have a rear facing camera tied into a 15" monitor mounted to the dash that I use for my rear view.

Re: Show Off Your Rearview Mirror Mods

The 1988 Blazer I'm buying back, I've installed a compass/auto-dimmer from a 1997 Suburban.

My 1987 Sierra I'm selling has a compass/auto-dimmer from a 1999 or 2000 Lincoln TownCar.

What all did you get from the donor to make the compass and temp work?

The mirror, and cut off the wires. Looked on forums to tell which wire did what, and hooked it up through the Accessory part of my ignition.

@ Rogue That is more like what I'm looking at. I'm starting to look at the 2004 04 Silverado mirror that does not include the OnStar button. Check this one out on eBay:

I honestly REALLY wanted a temp/compass/dim, but all I could get [for "free"] was a compass/dim. They're easy to wire up, and look damn good. ALSO FIT! My Suburban one never had to dim out in the Blazer, but the Lincoln one will dim out in the GMC, even with tinted windows. Nothing is needed for the compass. It's all built-in to the mirror. Just attach it and wire it in!

Re: Show Off Your Rearview Mirror Mods

I installed a auto dimming Comp/ temp mirror in my 71. My truck was lowered and I had clear glass in the back window and man were those lights bright and right in my eyes. I added the Auto dimming mirror what a difference. It worked great. It was a easy install too. I didn't have a headliner either so I tuck the wires in the window weatherstripping for a nice clean look. Im going to ad a auto dimming Rcd Mirror with a back up camera in my wife's crew cab project. Soon as I get the interior back together. (as she taps her foot).

I also just started as a dealer for the these types of mirrors. (see the link below if interested). If you guys have any questions about them I will certainly try and help.
