6 lug to 5 lug adapters on 23" wheels on porterbuilt suspension
Hey guys,
looking to start building my 66 c-10. Have a set of Giovanna 23" 5 lug 120mm rims laying around the garage. Thought process here is to use these rims with the build till I swap them year or two down the road. (trying to save a few bucks now). About to order my kit from Nate at porterbuilt he would take 1.5" out of the arms. The offset on the 23" rims is 6" plus 1.9"-2" for the 6 lug to 5 lug adapters ?? Just looking to cover my basis here, in-case you guys forsee a problem i don't. Look forward to some in-sight.. |

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug adapters on 23" wheels on porterbuilt suspension
Forget the 6-to-5 adapter.
They are very scary looking as far as adapters go. They have to be a 2-piece adapter since 1 hole in both lug patterns overlaps. Use 6-lug rotors and 6 lug rear axles. You are spending lots of money to get QUALITY parts from Porterbuilt,... don't screw it up with adapters. I'd rather run 15" steel wheels with hubcaps before I tried to use an ill fitting wheel and installation process. (my opinion)

Welcome to the forum laynrockers. I have to agree with these guys. If it were me, I would sell the wheels you have and buy what you want with the correct pattern and backspace. Its really not an economical advantage to spend time, and money just to install a set of wheel you don't really want.

Yeah i have not seen any good come from adapters,I seen them where the lugs worked loose and just spun in the hole even a few that failed that's never pretty.

I would hit one of the Full Size GM boards and see if they will sell. Then you can afford new wheels with the correct pattern and backspace....win/win...

You could probably get a decent buck on those rims by selling them... why not just sell them and pick out a nice set of six lug that you'll stick with? Just my 2 cents

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug adapters on 23" wheels on porterbuilt suspension
Welcome from Vegas...
Why are you taking 1.5" out of the arms? Is it for the rims you may not keep? Don't make the suspension fit the rims you will not be using in the end.... I agree with the others, get some cheap rims that fit without adapters. It may not be the perfect look now, but it will be safer and save probably save you money in the long run.... |

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug adapters on 23" wheels on porterbuilt suspension
What are wrong with Wheel adapters!!! I put a set of High Quality 2PC 6 to 5 Lug Adapts on my 68 and Never had a problem, even spaced my wheel out 2" to make my Cragars fit better. Dont let these guys "Scare" you to death, $130- took 45 Min. Done, wheels went on and I went driving down the road, I almost forgot I had them on there.

Combine all of that with the fitment issues the OP was facing, and it was not a practical choice for him.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug adapters on 23" wheels on porterbuilt suspension
What it cost for good adapters you can buy new rims almost. The garage i use to work for wouldn't work on anything that had adapters or thick spacers on it for legal reasons.Ever since i bought a wheelrite i never had to worry if my math is right if a wheel and tire will fit.If you don't know what a wheelrite is its a tool that lets you test first any rim and tire combo http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PHP-01201

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug adapters on 23" wheels on porterbuilt suspension
Just seem goofy to take some off the arms and run spacers for temporary rims that as most will be changed sooner or later, then what?. Just sell them don't compromise, get what you want the first time. So one with spacers will want them, haha.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug adapters on 23" wheels on porterbuilt suspension
Well like always, I learned a few things during this process. Turned out with the Disc brake conversion I am running the fronts don't need to be modified and will fit perfect. The rear axles I had a machine shop convert for $170 and will pick up tomorrow.
I am gonna use the 23"s for now cause to be honest there great rims and new tires later on down the road i am leaning towards the boss 338's. Thanks fellas. |
