Disc Brake\ Suspension question
Hey all,
Ive been lurking and reading alot of posts.. I have a 64 short bed I'm working on. I want to convert to disc brakes and lower it. I found an ad on craigslist http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/pts/2899082158.html for upper and lower control arms, drop spindles, calipers etc etc. If I read right, does all this just bolt onto my existing crossmember? thanks for the help, Eric |

Re: Disc Brake\ Suspension question
Should all bolt in. Is your rear end 5 lug? If not you'll have to convert to 5 or carry 2 spares.

Re: Disc Brake\ Suspension question
Well thats good news, Im going to have to grab this stuff up. I will eventually convert the rear as well.
Speaking of spares.. The truck came with 6 wheels (white wagon wheels)and tires, then I bought some original style wheels with hub caps and another spare, I have 11 total now! |

Re: Disc Brake\ Suspension question
Cheapest way, go to the junk yard and get the front spindle from a mid to late 70's Chevy truck. Then go to the auto part store and get new ball joints (top and bottom), OUTER tie rod ends, and new rotors ...all to match the same year as what you got the spindles off. Mid-70’s ball joints will mount to the A-arms, but won't match the old spindles. The outer tie rod will mate up to the new spindle, but if you had gotten new INNER tie-rods they won't mount up to the drag link. SO you have OLD inner tie rods and NEW outer tie rod and the adjuster in the middle works with both! New rotors is best, pretty cheap at store, as apposed to finding junk yards rotors and having them turned.
Now if you want to drop it in the front, the only change is getting drop spindles for a mid-late 70's truck ...everything else is the same. Try looking on eBay for drop spindles, I found some new ones at a pretty cheap price. GOOD LUCK! |
