lookin to update frame and works for my '54 2T 6300
What I would like to do is take the body off my '54 Chevy 2T model 6100 grain truck that has tandem dually axles w/dump bed and put it on a newer truck platform. I have yet to find tech info for newer truck frames, wheel base and such, to make the swap as easy as possible. It would be nice to go faster than 45 mph as the current 2 speed rear will allow. A more up-to-date running gear and brakes would be a plus too. Still would like to keep the dump feature. Does anybody know what Chevy/GMC medium duty truck I could swap off the body and enjoy highway speeds?

I bought a 92 dually parts truck a couple years back for the engine/trans and for the newer dually wheels to put on my 69 C-30. I can tell you that the frame on that 92 was way too wide for any older cab. The frame widens at the rear of the cowl where it is as wide as the doors. So, there's no way to channel the older cab. It would have to sit on top of the frame rails.

The shop owner who is rebuilding "The Kraken" 58-59 black pickup has a 40's? truck on a newer chassis. Not sure what he did in the conversion, but its a long flatbed for towing, he may have some helpful info.

Or you could change the axels from a newer truck to your chassis.

Thanks Maximus for the lead to Delmo. It sure is a great look'n carrier.
The thought of swapping out front and rear suspensions to update just might be the only way to get the combo needed. Man that's a lot of work but worth the time. Thought about a newer rear axle but i also would like to take out the 235.5 6cyl. that's in it and either put in a gas 8 cyl. or a buddy keeps talk'n diesel. That would mean newer brakes and it sure would be nice to have power steering rather than shoulders and arms making the turn. It's a beast to turn. Come to find out after breaking out the tape ruler both trucks have a 179" wheelbase....which means a frame at 297 1/2" over-all length; a 25" width at front and 36" at the rear. If there was only a data base some where to pull chevy frame info. Would be sweet. |
