Can I swap an LCA from a 64-66 to my 61?

I plan to bag the front of my truck and I wanted to see if the later model lower control arms will bolt up? I plan on keeping my stock drum brakes and spindles.

No. Your truck is torsion bars 63-66 trucks are coils. They are not interchangeable. Best bet is to swap in a 73-87 front crossmember with all new arms and everything. Then you get disc brakes in the front too. Or go all out and buy the full Porterbuilt front dropmember kit.

I understand the springs are different and I wont be using them it will be on bags. I just wanted to know if the dimentions are the same and will the ball joint match up.

I forgot to mention, this is on a tight budget. Porterbuilt is way out of my price range. I just sit back and admire those who have them

As far as I know no they will not bolt up. And not to mention your front crossmember has no easy area to bolt the upper bag mount to. Not to say that you couldnt build something but its eaiser with a coil crossmember. I did a 73-87 front crossmember swap to gain the correct arms to bag my truck and disc brakes. Use 88 Chevy 2500 7200lb gvw front rotors to maintain 6 lug. Everything cost me a total of 200 bucks. 100 for front crossmember with everything on it. And 100 for rotors, and a trick on the rotors is go to Autozone and get a quote for the rotors they dont sell anymore for 49.99 then take it to Orileys and they price match. Better then 70 bucks each any where else.

Re: Can I swap an LCA from a 64-66 to my 61?

For the upper bag mount I can use a standard bag mounting plate and bolt that up. The lower control arm is wide open and no place to mount a bag. I can weld in a plate there.

I did bags on my 65 and that was almost a direct bolt up. Thats why I was asking about the lower arms. I think there may be some frame width issues and that would throw that out of the possibilities.

Re: Can I swap an LCA from a 64-66 to my 61?

I would imagine all the frames are the same width seeing as how crossmembers can swap from year to year. I still think the eaisest thing is to swap to a 73-87 front crossmember. Cant beat 200 for a crossmember with disc brakes keeping 6 lug and you can make your own front bag mounts cheap with some flat plate. I bought mine based on time constrictions but they can be made easy. I will be rebuilding my lower arms for more drop though. Think about it and look for a crossmember on your local CL. Oh and try and find a crossmember with 1 1/4" rotors they are the direct swap to the 6 lug rotors.

So you put the '88-'98 light duty 2500 rotors on the '73-'87 spindles? I checked that out once, and the rotors did not line up correctly with the calipers.

From what ive read and the specs i could find on them thats what is suppose to be the correct rotors. When you tried it were the spindles for 1 1/4" stock 5 lug rotors?

Re: Can I swap an LCA from a 64-66 to my 61?

Hmm... Well looks like I need to do some more research. I would like to maintain 6 lug with my stock spindles for now with out having to buy drop spindles and expensive rotors. Any suggestions? BTW Captain. Your products are bad ass. Ill be in need of your 60-62 booster/clutch mc mount soon.
