back of hood wont close all the way
I have a 69 chevy and i am having a problem with the hood.when the cowl vent cover is off the hood closes fine but when the cover is on the back of hood wont go all the way down. There must be some contact but i cant figure out where and how to fix it. What is the gap between the hood and the cowl supposed to be? any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: back of hood wont close all the way
Did you install a new rubber hood seal on the cowl? Sometimes the new ones can be a little stiff and not "fold" with the hood when it closes.

Re: back of hood wont close all the way
^ as said above. You could put some light grease on the top or bottom edges where you suspect contact and see if you can determine where it is. Another thing is to soak and and lubricate the pivot points really well.
What I have done to adjust the hinges in the past is to first mark or outline the location that they are in so I can relocate them afterwards. Then slightly loosen and pivot the hinges and re-tighten and check it. Repeat as needed. It's not a cut and dry process. |

Re: back of hood wont close all the way
New hinges seem to eliminate the problem - they did for me.

i will check the seal but it also seams like it is pushing the hood forward into the grill.do you know what the gap should be in between hood and cowl?

Re: back of hood wont close all the way
Assuming it's an adjustment; open the hood and loosen the back two bolts that attach the hinge to the fender, leave the front one tight. Lift the front of the hood and the back of the hinge will rotate down pivoting on the front bolt. Adjust to your liking and tighten the rear bolts.
