mail order turbo 350

Folks,
I need a new transmission and need to replace my turbo 350. I have been looking at Summit (TCI, B&M, Hughes) and Monster...anyone have experience with these?

Save yourself some money, take yours and have it rebuilt with a mild shift kit. You can buy a rebuilt turbo 350 around here for 400 bucks with a shift kit and a 2 yr warr. If you have a problem with a shipped trans you have to ship back, pain in the butt.

I live in a very low density area and cannot get one done that cheap....but I might consider something in Tucson, about 2 hours away...don't believe it will be as little as $400...

Check out Bob's Transmission on Fairview and Grant, he only does bench jobs so you can save some money with the R&R.
Why are you not looking into a 700R4?
His son is also a master A/C shop and speaks hot rod and is in front of his dads shop on Grant Rd. Century Auto Air.
I use Century for all of my A/C needs and is very fair and competitive and knowledgible

I will call them. I have a friend that used to build transmissions in Tucson. What bugs me is for $200.00 in parts and $200 in labor I should be able to get the 350 rebuilt....but not so and I realize they have to make money, but the best local price so far is $920 for a factory rebuild with different pump and valve body (shift kit).... That just doesnt seem right for a 350....I could do a 700r4...I guess not a big deal...just more local issues...but I will call Bobs and see. Thanks.

i charge 450 with a tourque convertor and new kickdown cable with a shift kit no matter whats wrong except for a case no im not giving my number this is for expplanation purposes

If your going to do all the work to change the trans out, I would also take a few minutes to consider the 700r4 option. After I installed a overdrive trans in my '65 mustang, I will always try to use one. I installed a 4-speed in my truck, but mainly because it was mated to my pontiac motor, and its a bulletproof trans. If/when it as much as hiccups, a modern trans will be in its place.

drive-ability is enhanced very much, as you can cruise at freeway speeds with dramatically less wear on the engine. If your not worried about top speeds you can change the rear gears and increase acceleration...

again, the cheapest solution is keep what you have, as the 700r4 can create a domino effect.
- Driveshaft length, speedo gear replacement, possible rear gears swap, crossmember swap, shift linkage change, shift indicator change, if the 700r4 trans is too new, you may need a dedicated computer to control the electronic shifting... and on and on...

but again, its worth it to take the time and consider how you drive. If your truck is a daily driver, I wouldnt think twice about the conversion. My truck is a weekend warrior, so the 1:1 final drive is fine, but when my mustang was driven daily, the overdrive trans was a life saver/engine saver on the freeway commute.

At today's costs I would think that anyone that will bench a turbo 350 and supply the parts and a standard converter for under 500 is giving a guy a decent deal.

25 years ago we had a guy around here who would show up at your shop and bench one for 100 and you supply the kit he said to get and buy all the other pieces yourself. He did several for me over the years but that was at 1990 prices and it would probably cost 250 labor to have someone do it now Plus the parts.

i bought my 700r4 from phoenixtrans.com in texas
you could get a 200r4 and it will slide right in where the 350 came out.
it was built to match my ramjet 350 motor, i have no complaints.

i had no core to rebuild and this was easier than getting a jy core to rebuild.

every transmission you buy from tci b&m (ect) is rebuilt
