2wd vs 4x4 frame
Is there any difference between a 2 wheel drive frame and a 4 wheel drive frame. Will 4x4 parts bolt up to a 2 wd frame. Any help will be appreciated.

The rear section if I remember right is formed slightly different between the two styles of frames. If you have a leaf spring frame then it won't need to be changed at all to do the 4x4 conversion. From what I have read it is far easier to just get a leaf spring frame to start from if doing the conversion. Most all Chevy trucks are trailing arm and most all GMC trucks are leaf spring from what I understand.

The front suspension is not a direct bolt on. The rear shackle bracket needs to go through the parking brake cable indention, you must cut it out and weld in a flat piece to get the shackle in the right spot.

The rear of the frame on a 4x4 is more straight than either 2wd frame, both leaf and coil spring 2wd rear frame section kick in over the axle.4x4 goes straight to back of cab at 34 inches wide I believe. Gene is right about the front rear shackle mount.

You should be able to bolt 2wd leaf spring brackets to convert the rear, they are angled to allow for the step out.

Sounds like it isn't impossible. Like anything else, it will take some work. Thanks for all the input! I now have area's to look at for the swap.
