Body mounting kits

Hi guys,

I'm sorry If you have had this question before, but I'm really wondering about the best body mounts to buy for my 1978 GMC/ fleetside c3500.

I have heard bad things about LMC's body mounts, but has anyone tried them?

I don't feel comfortable because nobody, who I know, has used them. I said you may have the right idea or choice to pick one good mounts.

I prefer the original one (OEM) has the GM stamp on, but where to find them?

Please tell me what good/bad, and where to fine OEM if possible.

I have LMC's mount kit, no problems here. I have a big inch big block and haven't had any problems.

I used the complete LMC kit on my '74. I had to space up the bushings on the radiator support, but they mounts themselves worked fine. A trip to Home Depot for some large fender washers, and the problem was solved.

I recommend energy suspension as well. And so does rob on the make it handle thread

They urethane are a lot more resistant to age and road cantaminants than rubbers are so they should last lOnger

don't you have to reuse your bolts and brackets for the ES kit? (i.e., it replaces the rubber part only?) Mine had turned to powder, so the LMC kit was a great alternative.

I used the Prothane body mount/rad mount and rad cushion kit. Was cheap and worked very well. Over 100k on it.. no squeaks.. hasn't been a harder ride as some say with urethane.

They're polyurethane, should last longer than rubber bushings. I've got an Energy Suspension set in my nova since about 1988/1989. No splitting yet. Looking at my records, my truck got them in May 2005, still look the same as the day they went in.

Correct, it is only replacement bushings. No washers, no bolts. On the 83 cab style they are 4 identical 1/2-20 bolts anyway (4" or 6" long, didn't measure as I reused them). I did have to buy 1 new cup washer at the dealer (was around $5).

LMC should offer a poly kit with hardware, they'd probably sell more of 'em. (me for instance, I don't want rubber replacements, but sometimes you also need the hardware, kinda nice to just get everything in one box).

The Prothane is a good kit, and priced right. I personally ran the Prothane on my 84 C10, and worked great. Just make sure you use the grease supplied.

I've never greased a body bushing. If they are squeeking, the bolts are too loose. =-)

I havn't looked yet, but does prothane have a bushing kit for the 88-91 Crown Vic/Grand Marquis?

Good thread. I am wanting to do the same to my crew cab, does the LMC kit have all the hardware including cup washers and bolts? And is the LMC kit all rubber?

I guess so, but should any one tried LMC kits post some pics to make it clear what comes in that box?

I am confusing about what I buy. I hate this feeling. I guess sometimes I don't have to think just go and do it. However, asking is a good way to avoid making mistakes and saving time and money.

Also look at http://www.brotherstrucks.com/ see if they sell the same kit it might be cheaper.But either way i trust brothers and lmc.

I believe you are over thinking the body mount issue. Kits made today are superior to the ones made 25 to 30 years ago. The poly kits are stiffer then the rubber, though the poly kits add more support. Over the years I have ordered from LMC, dealer and a local aftemarket parts store and have never said " damm those suck". So just order a kit from wherever you want an I am positive you will appreciate whatever you get. However I would recommend ordering a new bolt kit with it.

I have more positive feeling toward LMC kits because they are specified on trucks. They also offer bolts and all hardwares needed although their price is high. I hope they last longer than I expect .

I have used Prothane on all my Chevy trucks. Keeps the body lines straight and they dont wear out like OEM rubber.

put me down for one vote for rubber. I installed a set of urethane on a 79, it made the truck ride terrible, I could feel every single crack in the pavement. Honestly it was like bolting the body directly to the frame, steel to steel. I took it out after two weeks to put oem rubber in, and found one of the two front ones under the radiator had already split. It's facotry rubber for me, from here on out. Nothing like driving an old truck that still rides like new

I didn't notice a difference. But then, I've got the 7 leaf spring pack in my truck and the hd 1 ton springs up front. =-)
