Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

Hi
First of all I've been here for a bit and like this forum.
This is our truck
A 76 chevy 4x4 shortbed

And this is the carburetor we have installed

Now the problem is it wont start unless we put gas into the carb directly but only for a moment.
Heres a video I took in case your interested

http://youtu.be/6Sr0h_Zmbco

Any advice would be helpful
Thanks in advance

Do you have fuel pumping into the carb?

Thanks for reply

It does pump gas but we were thinking it might not be enough going thru.

Re: Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

Do you have a fuel filter in between the pump and carb? If you do, check the filter might be clogged. Fuel line between filter and pump could be clogged. Fuel pump could be on uts last leg...

Check your fuel lines for a clog and check your fuel pressure. But first make sure you hqve gas in your tank. Single or dual tanks?

Re: Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

Does your switch between tanks work? Before yoy start spending money see if your pump is any good...take the line off the pump assuming its mechanical and have someone crank the engine 2-3 times see if any fuel is coming our of the pump.

Re: Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

Is it a new carb? Have you changed the ignition? Anyback fire through the carb could cause the accelerator pump to go out, AkA it won't want to idle

Re: Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

remove power to coil, before checking pump
clean out line from pump to carb(mine was fulla rusty crud)
confirm no breaks in gas line to tank...can you blow bubbles by mouth SLOWLY into tank?
consider running line into a portable can from pump to eliminate poss tank issues

Re: Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

Hi again.
It turns out that the people o'reillys auto parts told us that the fuel pump seems to be in working order(it is 5 years old and hardly ever used).

They also said that it could be that there might not be enough gas in the tank to create enough pressure for the pump to push gas all the way to the carb. So that is our next little thing to do.

Ill keep you guys posted and thanks again.

Re: Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

You could add a couple of gallons in and try it but I hardly doubt it...let us know. We'll walk you through it step by step.

Re: Trouble getting 76 pickup to start.

Sorry not being able to reply but nothing has happened until today.

One of my dads mechanic friends came over and had some ideas on what was wrong. It turns out that the switch that controls the tanks was not responding. So the went under the truck and manually switched the tanks. So here's a video of it if you guys want to watch it.

Chevy finally on

It only took a new fuel pump and new hoses.

To bad I still have the passenger cable problem

Sorry once again sorry for not replying but that's it
