Good Buy???

I am currently thinking about purchasing a GMC sierra 87. I want a fixer upper and I think I found the perfect truck to fix up. This is my first truck purchase and really could use some tips on what to look for when I go inspect the car. The lady wants 1500 for it. Problems that you cant see in the picture are as follow the speedometer doesnt work and the gas gauge doesnt work and also she said I will have to bleed the brakes. No ac or heat. She did state the motor is a beast. Also the rust on the floorboard will that be a big problem to self treat. Any helps and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Re: Good Buy???

with the limited amount of what can be seen in that picture, id think you are paying a little more than what its worth... the floorboards I cannot see well enough.. if there is no rot through you can in all likelyhood sand down and por 15 them.. the heat and ac issue could be somehting as simple as a haeater core or hose but could be worse.. the air condition could cost hundreds of dollars to fix.. as to the brakes needing bleeding.. there is a problem somewhere they just dont lose fluid by evaporation there is a leak somewhere... so count on a couple of hundred dollars there,, it does appear that your truck is a better start than mine was.. but mine has over 15 thousand dollars in it now

Re: Good Buy???

The thing I would be worried about is that the truck has a real messed with vibe. Someone has "customized" it in what looks like a half a$$ed way. You might have to spend a considerable amount of time degoobering the truck. I am in the middle of this with my 76 K10, POs can do some strange things. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Good Buy???

With both the previous posters on this one. Seems a little high for someone else s "fixes"
For me, the mis-matched interior, dark band along the bottom of the truck (that DOESN'T include the door.), hood scoops etc. just put up red flags.

Could be good as long as you go in with your eyes WIDE open. You'd be surprised how quick the "little" stuff adds up.

Is that a drop-in bed liner or paint in the bed?

Re: Good Buy???

I would NOT use that as a base for a fixer upper...

Re: Good Buy???

I think that $1500 could buy you a better project to restore than that one. It looks like a money pit to me.

Re: Good Buy???

Take a gooood look underneath, make sure the frame is in good/fair shape. double check the rear spring hangers, they like to rot there.

If you have a good frame then its just a question of how much money you want to spend.
