Parking brake ideas

I'm putting a LS motor in my 60' and with the length of the tranny I can't use the original crossmember that the park brake balancer is mounted on. I am also using a 64 frame. A month ago or so I was cruising a classic truck mag and saw a solenoid for installing push button parking brakes but I'm not sure about doing this and now I can't find the mag again. I have been told to not use a line lock for a parking brake because is might cause failure over time to the wheel cylinders. Any ideas?

By the law in most states, the e-brake/parking brake must be mechanical. If you still have the rear drum brakes that have the parking brake cables, why not just convert to the '66-'72 parking brake cable assembly.....no crossmember needed.

I know that it is a parking brake and not an emergency brake, but worst case scenario... If the hydraulic system fails, and the only means you have to stop 5000 lbs of truck is a push button, that leaves the brake fully applied or fully released... there'd be no way to "feather" it and slow the vehicle' given that it works at all... Just sayn' HOLD ON!!!

Ya know Dino Driver...Cap.Fab has a good point.
The '67-'72 trucks used a cable & rod system that would only require drilling a couple holes in the right spot on yer frame...hook it up, and your golden.

It would be worth your while to research that one.
There are a bunch of that year model trucks in different stages of disassembly out at the U-Pull-it & Save in Boring. You could check it out without even laying down..as some have the box's already off.

I was out at the classic u-pull it last month getting a drag link. I was disappointed to see so many "Modern" cars and trucks in there. I think the system on the 66 is the best way for me to go.

I had the same problem. I just fabbed up the whole e-brake assembly along with the new cross member. After a years use it has worked great without any problem. It hooks to the manual link on the rear disk brake calipers, and the original in cab handle.
