700r4 throttle valve

i installed a holley 600 cfm carb on my 383 and i bought a new bracket to mount the throttle cable and the tv cable to. well i ended up having to bend my gas pedal that way i could open the carb up to full throttle. well when i hooked up my tv cable to adjust it i hooked it up and pushed the throttle wide open to set it. well when i did the little half moon plastic piece with the teeth on it just popped totally out of the housing for the cable. well i put it back in and didn't really think anything about it and ended up putting my old bracket back on so i would pull it out too far again. well when i go to adjust the cable it doesn't change the shift pattern. no matter where i put the adjuster for the tension it still shifts way too early and I'm afraid i might burn up the clutches. i think i pulled it out too far and messed up the throttle valve. has any one had this issue and if so can i get some advise? thanks

i don't think i snapped the cable but i might have broke the function of it. I'm just not sure.

Re: 700r4 throttle valve

do you have a picture of your bracketry?

with the vehicle off, pull the cable out a couple times and you should hear the throttle valve moving with it. this may also unstick the valve in case it is stuck open.

if you think you broke the cable, an OEM style cable is only around $20 at the parts store.

Re: 700r4 throttle valve

Do you mean the half moon broke off the cable or the cable came out of the adjuster?

The throttle valve cable is not for use of setting shift points. The first gear for a 700r4 is real short and low geared. Say vs a th350 this will naturally shift sooner
I'm assuming you have the bracket shaped like an L for the throttle valve bolted on your carb?

What I do is adjust the cable like so- pull the cable off the carb. Have a friend or a brick hold your throttle to full. Pull the cable out with your hands just a bit past the stud on your linkage. Of you cannot Adjust till you can do so. This is your max setting and should not be tempered with afterwords or you will damage your pump an clutches
