Prices of parts trucks and scrap

What are bottom barrell (no good parts) scrap trucks worth these days in your area? I see ads where they want $500+ and will not negotiate. Scrap trucks here are $400 these days if you haul it in and put the wear and tear on your trailer and truck and burn the gas. Now, i have no problem paying more if there are valuable parts there but why do people ask for more than scrap when all they have is scrap? Now if they have more than scrap, and want more thats fine just don't inflate the scrap value if thats all is there. Sorry for the rant, more curious what you guys are seeing for scrap prices for trucks you take in within your area and if parts trucks prices are inline or higher than scrap as well.

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

Here in OR atleast my area scrap is 235.00 a ton. A complete truck weights about 5000lbs. That's 587.50 over the scales. Scappers are forced to pay near scrap value because so many people are doing it. The competion is getting stiff to buy the trucks because so many will do one for 50.00 profit tax free. Do three to four a day and its 150-200 a day again tax free. Take away fuel expenses, maybe insurance and its all profit. I buy atleast one truck (67-72) a week and have to pay a minimum of 500.00 reguardless of condition.

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

Oh yea, one of the local scrappers scrapped a 70 CST C10 402, AT, with TILT last summer. He seen the truck and that it had been sitting for a while, knocked on the door bought it and went straight to the scales. I have since convinced him to come see me before he goes the scales. That has resulted in two buy's, one being another 402 truck.

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

Then there is also the guys selling trucks cheap.

I bought my 69 for $250 and drove it home. Of course it was not in very good condition, but it was a running and driving 3/4 truck. I bought it only because it was so cheap.

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

250 is a steal for even a stationary truck! I can't recall ever seeing a running 67-72 truck here in the last 15 years for less than 800.

Also do you guys take a hit at the scales if the bed is wood or do they not care?

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

depending on what options are on them they range around here from, $700 for a plain jane and for a optioned one $1000-$1500. I just hauled the remains of that 72 super in today, no front or rearend, no fenders or bumpers, no motor or tranny, didn't even weigh a ton $178 for it. They don't dock for much of anything down here, wood bed doesn't matter, tires don't matter

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

Sad to say but some are worth more dead that alive. I havent taken a whole vehicle over the scale for a price but the yard I have been to cant take cars/trucks unless there all cut up but I got $245 for #1 unprepared and $200 for light iron. thats at regular 2000lb to a ton. not a long or metric ton 2240lbs.

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

It's the mentality that if it's worth $400 scrapped, then someone that likes said vehicle, would be willing to pay a bit more to save it from scrap. Target is younger people, or someone new to the hobby, that doesn't know any better.

You can thank Barrett Jackson for most of this, as people tend to believe they have something worth thousands of dollars IF it was restored. But at the end of the day, sometimes one mans junk is just one mans junk......................

Re: Prices of parts trucks and scrap

$.10/lb in Oklahoma yesterday, I got $344 for this 3440 lbs Tahoe. I bought it for $600 running and driving wrecked in the front with random dents and the rear bumper smashed into the body. Driver quarter was also dented. I removed the drivetrain sold alot of parts, removed pass door, barn doors, and removed anything else I thought I could sell. Probably could have made some more on the windows but I was tired of messing with it. They check your gas tank in Oklahoma and a bill of sale or title is required to scrap vehicles now.
