help building 93 454
I have a 93 454 out of a c3500. I would like to have it make about 500hp. this is going to go in my 87 K5. Im thinking 30 over arp rod bolts but what i need to know is what heads and intake to use.

The head selection depends on what you want to do with this motor. K5 I assume you just need big torque and stay under 5500 rpm. The 236 peanut port heads will yield impressive torque but run out of air above 5500 rpm. Put some dome pistons in around +20 cc to bump compression around 10:1, intake and headers, a ROLLER cam around 270 duration with .500 lift and you will be set!

1993 would have been a TBI engine. Might not have provisions to mount a mechanical fuel pump.

of course porting and polishing will help. Wont be cheap. Search this site for porting and polishing peanut port heads.

This is a MKIV build and was built extremely tight for a long street life. A loser motor would have obviously dynoed more.
454 + .040, 490HP x 540 FT pounds of Torque 10-1 Kb Forged pistons, recon rods w/ ARP wave loc bolts 781 heads Ported with 2.19/1.88 SSTvalves Lunati 60204 cam, Micro Trol lifters, Ported Edelbrock Performer Rpm manifold armor coated, Pertronix Triple Strike Ignition Holley 770 Street Avenger carb,Headers armor coated |
