Starting c10 project sandblasting
Im getting ready to start one of my c10 projects. It's a 66 Swb. I was going to send the chassis and body parts out to my local blaster but was wondering if I should invest in a blaster and do it myself. I have another project after this one to do to. I have some experience in blasting I did my cousins 69 nova subframe and body for him. I borrow a friends blaster at the time to do it. My compressor is big enough to run a decent sized blaster. What are all your thoughts on doing this and suggestions on blasters? How many of you all doing your own blasting? I know of all the precautions of panel warpage? My local guy prefers abbrasive blasting over soda and was going to do that with mine so not sure if I want to go with soda. I seen some machines that do both what are opinions on them and what are some good ones?

Re: Starting c10 project sandblasting
I have been doing some research on using crushed walnuts shells as a media agent also.

Re: Starting c10 project sandblasting
I don't recommend soda or silica sand. Use a different media. If you have as much to do as it sounds, then it might be worth the investment of buying your own blast pot. I would look for a good used smaller industrial blast pot. That is if your compressor produces enough CFM's. You would need probably 175 CFM's to run a small industrial blast pot. Otherwise look into some of the better hobbiest blasters, but expect to spend some time blasting.

Re: Starting c10 project sandblasting
When i had my blasting done i talked to several different blasting company's.
I ended up going with sand over soda. From my understanding soda will not remove rust and undercoating. I had my frame, cab, certain areas of the hood and inside bed blasted and then used the paint stripping disc's on the outer bedsides and the other areas that the blaster was concerned with damaging the metal. I too toyed around with doing my own blasting but the cost of a GOOD blasting pot and buying blasting sand was more than what i paid to have my work done. What took him a couple hours would have taking me a couple days to complete. There are mobile sand and soda blasters in the Chambersburg area that will come and do the work on site.
