Exclamation 1977-How do you remove the instrument panel cover?

1977 Cheyenne. I need to replace a faulty temperature gauge.

I have the original 1977 Truck Service Manual, no help in there.

I removed all the screws from around the face of the instrument cover, but I cannot remove it. The vent body on the upper right corner won't clear the dash frame.

First question: Am I going at this the right way?

Is it covered in a Chiltons, maybe?

I thought this would be a straight forward process, but it's not turning out that way...do I need to drop the steering column?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: 1977-How do you remove the instrument panel cover?

Sorry, tried to edit and revise the question...

I did drop the column, and that gave enough clearance to remove the instrument panel cover.

Now, that is off, I have removed three 9/32" screws from around the cluster, but it's being quite resistant..

How the heck does the cluster come out? It just doesn't seem to be making sense...

Sorry for answering my own posts, and then asking another question, just hoping someone might stumble across this at the same time I'm needing the help...thx.

Ok...problem solved.

I needed to replace temp gauge. It shouldn't have been rocket science, and it wasn't.

Remove outer bezel.
Remove clear plastic gauge cover.
Remove inner metal black cover.
The gauge simply pulls out.
