Re: Yay!!

Yeah. I decided to go that route. I really liked them on my '90 Blazer. I like bodies stock and don't care for bolt-on goodies a whole lot. But,there's something about these flares on square body 4wds that just seams right. It's so '70s,but also they are stock on about every 4wd these days and many for over 20 years. I have 10" wheels, too.
I scuffed them up,primed and painted them today. Here's one of each flare in a before, scuffed, primed, and painted picture:

Re: Yay!!

Right now Bushwacker is selling these for $254 +/-. I've hinged on this for a while, but decided to pull the trigger. These things have been around since the late-70s when 4wds were getting graphic paint jobs, chrome roll bars, and running Turbines. They are a subtle change on the square body when tires/wheels are wide enough. If I had 8" wheels I wouldn't have gotten them, but these put the body back over the tires for a more refined look. I think they somewhat take it in another direction but I'm doing anything else in that direction (custom). The soft top took in a fun toy direction and the lift with big tires/black wheels combined with the top give it a could be serious off road fun toy direction. The only other plan would be fabbing stout steel bumpers (& winch),which would also lend to the serious fun off road toy vibe...cuz it pretty much is! Just one I don't want to bend up.
I'll get pictures once they are installed. I'm hittin' two jobs today,so probably won't get to them today. I need to get another can of paint mixed up between jobs, too. Here's a picture of my old '90 family wagon as a warmup. What I'm doing to this Jimmy is what I was going to do to the Blazer, but had to sell a few years back when money was tight (wait,it's tight now!). I had ordered a black soft top from STC,but I was lucky enough to be one of their last orders. They were taking forever giving excuses,I cancelled the order, but refund never came by the time the number was disconnected/out of business. Like I had $5-6 hundred dollars to throw away

Re: Yay!!

I went to zip these on real quick with a little light left in the day after mowing, but the "self drilling" screws they supplied don't self drill. I guess they meant "self tapping". I was hoping I could get away with not pulling the tires off to drill holes. I'll get to these tonight or this weekend. You can't wait?...I can't wait!!

Re: Yay!!

I like them. I'm always torn when it comes to this stuff. I kinda like the leave it alone look or minimal changes from stock. But,they give it a good look that gives a completeness to adding the bigger wheels and tires. It's still plain looking, yet custom. It doesn't look so military now. Or,more like it looks military that someone modified. People ask all the time if it's a military Blazer all the time and I tell them,"No,it's a park ranger Jimmy".

Re: Yay!!

Thanks. I had them flatten the paint a bit since the original paint is semi-gloss now...and I'm leaving it that way. It doesn't match that great, but oh well. The vibe is not exactly a "refined" one anyway.

Re: Yay!!

Well,I drove in the rain today. Couldn't tell any difference but I didn't notice any spray before either. I'm sure a bit less is flying up but the sides will still get sprayed with no mud flaps. Don't worry,I'm not thinking about those!

Re: Yay!!

Thanks! For being someone who doesn't like add-ons I just like these on this body (with the right tires). These are the first Bushwacker flares from decades past and they compliment the body. If they were molded-in they'd flow right along like it GM might have done it. On 78/79 Fords these flares fit under the side trim and look hot! It just works on certain 4wds. Actually,I used these on the front of my '95 with a utility body to give a bit more coverage over the 8" wheels. The factory 8-lugs have wider front suspension and all 88-98s used more backspace. The truck came with factory flares and there are holes in the surface for them the Bushwackers wouldn't cover. So,I went to Chevy and ordered a pair of 2wd/1/2t 4wd fenders.

Re: Yay!!

^ Actually, that was my "add-on" truck. I wanted to do a sort of conversion truck on a work truck theme on it. Take a not so highly optioned truck and add custom touches.

Re: Yay!!

Yeah,it gives it a more refined look and it was cool as more of an "I don't care that much, just added what it takes to wheel better" look. There's something tough about tire lugs hanging out from under the body. So ya think it looks like a mall cruiser now?
