Removing B& M Floor Shifter
On my new truck, if I want to remove the BM floor shifter and add a long Lokar "style" floor shifter, can it be done without having to worry about a lock-out of some sort to take it out of PARK?
I see many trucks here and rat rods with long shifters and wicked shift knobs that I assume do not have the button like Lokar shifters do to take the transmission out of PARK. How is this accomplished ? Thx Brad |

Re: Removing B& M Floor Shifter
The Lokar shifters all have the "Park" lock. There are also many 'wicked' knobs available for the Lokars. That lock is not just for taking it out of park, but it also keeps you from accidentally slamming in to park or reverse while you are going down the road...

Re: Removing B& M Floor Shifter
If you want to use a non-button shift knob of any style on a Lokar shifter, you buy an adapter that screws on top of the Lokar shifter shaft. The knob goes on top of the adapter. With the adapter in place, the whole knob is pushed down to release the internal latch. Back when I had a Lokar shifter I would have preferred the adapter, because with the button in the knob, if you jump in and push the button without looking, it's reasonably easy to fold your thumb nail over backward if you catch the edge of the hole as the button is depressed into the knob.
Other shifters like Gennie and some of the American Shifters use a detent plate much like a column shift, so they can accept any standard shift knob with the correct thread size, but they still have to be unlatched out of park.
