Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
Ok so is there a fuse to the dome light? If so which one because I dont see a dome or light label on the fuse box....
2....I bought advanced auto switches that have 2 leads but they say they fit the car....Will they work with 1 lead? The old switches are rusty and i assume non function since one doesnt even push in Installed one but I still get no dome light...Tried both sides and i assume maybe i just need to ground it out or its dual output Thanks

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
Try to wire a ground to the other terminal. Also the wiring itself to the dome light can have breaks in it. Fairly common issue with these trucks

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
I would make sure the bulbs in the dome lights (roof and under dash - center) are good. When the switches are installed it is easy to turn the entire switch when tightening the nut - causing the wires to the switch to twist and fray or sometimes twist off completely.
The switch should have a metal plunger, not a plastic plunger. My Haynes manual shows an orange (hot) wire and a white (ground) wire. There is a fuse for it, but I don't know which one - you would have to look for an orange wire at the fuse block. If you only have one wire in the door pillar opening you likely have another wire which fell off and is in the kick panel area - I think I fished one out on my truck by removing the kick panel and vent. |

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
Dome and floor lights share the same white ground path but some years they are on different power feeds.
GM calls the floor lights Courtesy lamps. It's fuse is usually marked CTSY or something similar. It's usually shared with the tail lamps. The Dome could be on the CTSY, STOP LPS, or STOP LAMPS HAZARD fuse. I'd need to know what year your cab is to be sure. If the power feed is good then grounding the white door switch wire or turning the headlight switch to the DOME position will turn the Courtesy lights and Dome light on.

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
On my 79 the lights are hooked up to dome/cargo and horn. My door jamb switches are just one wire to ground out the system and work some of the time because of how poorly they fit. Try the horn fuse.

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
No, they blink. Sounds like a wiring goof somewhere, hazards could be the relay. Do you have a cargo light? If so, is the switch in the right position? I had a major short in the inside light that started to melt the wiring and blowing fuses. I replaced the light socket and new door switches and works like a charm.

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
hmm no I turned it on with the truck off but everything was solid.....no blinking at all....Now on the other hand I tested the bulb with a spare cargo light i had...I just hooked it direct to the car bat to see if it lit up...The cargo/dome light should come on regardless if i turn the light swithc all the way even if the door jambs are emssed up though right? I might try to swap the newer dome in

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
OK i found the problem.....It is the ACC fuse and i am not really sure why but as soon as I put a fuse in it pops!!! But at the same time I can remove the Dome light wire from above it and wire it into a different fuse....Now the door jamb switches dont do anything but the light switch on makes it work...
So are the door jamb switches wired directly to that fuse? maybe if i replace the other old fuse it will stop.... weird

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
It is my guess that the circuit is always hot (so that is the orange wire bringing the power to each of the light bulbs on the circuit).
Now when you open a door, the door switch completes a ground circuit to these bulbs so that the entire circuit is complete and the lights come on....that's why there are loops of white wire / the ground wire in the whole circuit. So try to think of it as a flowing river that runs in a circle (if that makes sense)....and follow your power source from the fuse all the way along the circuit....then follow your ground source(s) in the circuit as well and you might find the break that is causing this. I would first buy one new switch and install it in either side to check your switches or just ground out the circuit from both sides to see if that is the problem....then I would check the wiring that goes under the drivers side carpet near the door to see if the wiring going to the dome light is broken or grounding out along the way. Hope this helps.

The problem may be the wires to the door jamb switches or, more likely, the door jamb switches themselves.

Re: Dome/ Door Jamb Switch ???
OK so I have the dome working except for the fact that its only if the key is in the car....If i wire it direct to the battery it will work like it is suppose to but thats a lot of work for something i prob dont need.... Either way the ACC fuse spot is still jacked and I dont know why.....I assume the power wire to it is ground out...Anyone know what wire in the engine bay goes to it??? Or how i can trace it? I sure dont want to remove that fuse thing and look at the back of it
Also the new door jamb switch are ghetto!!! The screw doesnt go the whole distance so after putting them on they were loose! I had to remove them and add a washer and of course in doing so i lost the wire in the hole and had to play fish a wire.... Needless to say after putting them back together i added electrical tape to keep it all together..
