Where do I find a ring/pinion for K20 Eaton?
I have a 1968 K20 3/4 ton 4WD with an Eaton rear end. Where do I find new ring and pinion sets?
Thanks |

Call Randy's Ring and Pinion. They are located in Seattle and can usually get anything you want. Website is www.ringpinion.com. Phone is 1-866-631-0196.

You are not going to find a new ring and pinion for an Eaton anywhere. Unless its a NOS on and you are going to pay through the nose for one. There is a thread over on Pirtate4x4 on the H072, and there is a company that is suppose to be producing them again soon. They are still in the development stages.

Dump the Eaton and swap in a D60 or 14b.

Buy another axle. What ratio do you want?

Lots of fools do that. Just buy or let one of them give you the one they're dumping and use the parts. What's wrong with yours? These are great rears and seldom need ring & pinion replacement, unless not lubed properly. If you want to change ratios, same thing, find an axle someone is discarding. I love them and in over 30 years have yet to find a reason to dump one for a rear that it no improvement.

I have 4:56s and want a 3:73. I'll check Randy's and around.

Re: Where do I find a ring/pinion for K20 Eaton?
The 8 lug ho72 is a 10.5 ring gear or so. And 3.73 is not an available ratio. 4.10 was the highest, with 4.56, 5.13, and an alleged 5.86.

Re: Where do I find a ring/pinion for K20 Eaton?
They are tough but the only ratios are slow and slower. ihave never seen a 4.10 I would like one. the only ones i have seen were 4.56and 5.13.

Great. Well I will be driving it around town anyway. Maybe a swap will be in the future. I don't think the swap to 4:10 will make that much difference anyway.

What year or model of rear end is a straight swap as far as spring perch and all?

Re: Where do I find a ring/pinion for K20 Eaton?
What about a Dana 60 for the rear since I have a Dana on the front? There's a Dana 60 rear on the forum. Parts easier to find, like ring and pinion?

Re: Where do I find a ring/pinion for K20 Eaton?
Most 8 lug rear axles.will provide long lasting service. Decide your parameters, like desired ration, original-ness, match front axle width, or just plain beef.
A 14 bolt is tried and true and cost effective. 373 is the highest ratio there with a matching front. A 60 can get 355s, not sure about a 44. Posted via Mobile Device |
