Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

I've been looking on this site for awhile to find a write up on laying the front if a 62 c10 on the ground. Just got the front bagged and want to keep the drum brake and stock crossmember setup. The plan is to Z it but we're trying to make the Z as small as possible. any help or suggestions would be great thanks...

Re: Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

cup lower arms , notch the frame that is the best i have seen on this site to do it . from what i have seen takes about 4 inches to lay crossmeber with bags . i would say cup the arms = 2-3 inches and notch the frame were cross member bolts to frame = 1.5 or so depending on how much you notch it .

Torsion bars are out because I bagged the front... Now about to do the rear but I'm wanting the front to lay on the ground...

Re: Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

haha found it like page four lol

looks really clean and seems wouldnt have to mess with the tranny tunnel like you would with a z and engine and tranny should stay in same area hight wise .

Re: Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

cant you pancake the front crossmember also so it sits higher around the frame instead of knotching the frame? ill see if i can find a thread for pancaking the crossmember..... or is a 62 front crossmember different?

Re: Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

look closely at dino's crossmember on post # 143 and you can see where the crossmember center is cut out and rewelded lower so it wraps around the fram making the suspension sit higher:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=522708&page=6

ill see if i can find a better thread showing how to do it

Re: Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

I cupped my LCA and the raised my lower ball joints up about 2 in. Now getting the wood floor out of the back so I can make a wishbone and raise the stock wood floor and stock fenders... This is a 100% low budget build and will attempt to make what I have work... Heres a pic of the LCA and the other pic is it layin next to my body drop...

Re: Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

Looks good ! Your the only only one that ive seen cup the a-arms and also step the ball joints at once, I was also thinking of doing this but didnt know how low the crossmember would be at a low ride height from the road? do you think you could get a picture or two of how the crossmember sits at different heights?

As it sits deflated the crossmember is about 1/2in from layin on the ground... I can air it up to stock ride height if needed so I'm not sure how low or high your tryin to drive it....

Re: Trying to lay the front of 62 c10 down

Going go put a gusset in the center underneath after the new lower ball joints come in.. Wood floor is out of the back and we plan to just raise it along with the rear tubs...
