C-30 Front Air Bag Brackets... Help Me
Ok, so I am putting Slam Specialties SS-8 on the front of my Crew Cab. I have looked online at some cross member and control arm mounts. I decided to have my own made, made a template and had my freind cut it out on his plasma cutter. I did this knowing that I would have to put a bent in it to follow the contour of the crossmember/ control arm.
My problem is that they look pretty bulky when I put them up to the cm/cr's. Im am only using air bags for the ride and no tricks. Have any of you done this to your rides and how did you do it. |

Re: C-30 Front Air Bag Brackets... Help Me
I can't help but will be following along. I want to put bags on the front of mine for the ride also. I was thinking of using some 2600 bags and just use bolt in cups on the bottom. But i don't know if it will work or not.

I am thinking of cutting round plates to weld flush into the pockets of the control arms. Might even have the whole pocket cut out. For yours, Ive seen where guys cut out the spring pocket an weld in a "cup" that is big enough to house the bag. If I find the pick I'll post it. Yours will sit lower the control arm than mine because of the ride height. THe crossmember is a different story, I need to be able tighten the bolts on my airbags. Like i said the plates I had cutout would work but I just dont like the look. I wish I wasnt so damn picky! |

One other thing is that you will need to remove the bump stop mounts. I went with the SS-8's because theyre not suppose to increase in diameter as pressure increases and they have bumpstops built in. Ive heard that most bags increase in dia on pressure increase.

Well I took my control arms in today to get the spring pockets cut out and have a flat peice of 1/4" welded in. Should have them tomorrow. I just wish I would have thought if this earlier being that there already powdercoated. I am going to use the crossmember plates that I had made. You dont notice them as much I guess.

Did you sink the plate down in the arm at all? Was there enough room to keep the sway bar mounts? I ended up getting rid of mine, still turns great without it.

I am having them mounted flush. I still want the stock ride height. I am hoping to still use the sway bar.

Re: C-30 Front Air Bag Brackets... Help Me
Was able to get the crossmember brackets bent as needed, and they also finished my lower controls arms. Unfortunatly, I was only able to get things mocked up so I can get things marked to drill holes etc. Saturday I had to run a A/C service call and then mow our churches grass. And today church, family and mow my own grass. Anyhow here is a couple pics to see how things look.

That sure was painfull, It only took me about 20 minutes to download those pics. First i tried downloading all 4 at the same time, but I had to re-log in and start over. I love living in the country but this B.S. satilite internet sucks. Kinda takes all the fun out it.
