did you paint your master cylinder?

Just bought as new power brake setup and in less than 2 weeks some surface rust showed up on the master cylinder. Anyone paint there with lasting results? I am thinking of painting black.

Re: did you paint your master cylinder?

Just painted mine with Eastwood Brake Gray. It's not cheap, one can with shipping ran about $24...But from the test they ran...brake fluid will not eat it. It actually has stainless steel particles in it, so the grey IMO, is somewhat of a misnomer. It comes out shinier than that. To me, it was worth it because I had my original master cylinder, prop valve, and calipers all rebuilt, and didn't want to see them get flashed over. So I sprayed them all, plus the rear wheel cylinders, the booster (also rebuilt/plated) /brake rod linkage.

I like the look, even though it's shinier than cast...If I have a chance, over the next couple days, I'll try and post a pic of how they turned out.

Re: did you paint your master cylinder?

I used the rustoleum auto paint at Autozone - 500 degree and supposed to stand up to oil and grease better. I painted the MC with cast color then cleared it with the same type stuff. Cost about 14 bucks. It has been a little over two years and it has held up well. If you spill any brake fluid on it it wipes right off without stripping paint.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: did you paint your master cylinder?

I just used Eastwood Brake Grey and it's very light, like an aluminum intake manifold. For my tastes it should be darker. I like JWall's photo above, I'd go with the Dark Cast if I had to do it over.
