sbc to bbc swap

Truck I have currently has a sbc in it, we are contemplating putting in a big block. What is the most efficient way to do this? I would like to run tall valve covers if possible. Slide exisitng mounts forward in the cradle? Get different mounts all together?

Thanks in advance.

Re: sbc to bbc swap

I put a bbc in my 65 years ago, I used the later truck mounts like 73 and up, I also used 69 camaro 1 3/4 headers.I had moroso chrome valve covers,If I remember correctly I inatalled the mounts on the engine and posotioned the engine were it would clear the firewall and then drilled 3/8 holes for the frame mounts,I did have to ding the headers in a couple of places but overall it was not that bad.Hope this help.

Re: sbc to bbc swap

While I prefer to use the '73 and up motor mounts, you can also use the '68-'71 truck motor mounts and brackets, They will bolt right into the '63-'66's, but I don't know if you can run tall valve covers without modifying the firewall. When I built my Suburban, I fabricated custom brackets and used the '73 and up mounts and the upper bracket, also known as the 'clamshell'. I did this because I wanted to run M/T valve covers on it. I moved the engine forward aprox 2" from the original location.
