White wall tires? Pics please

Looking to buy a set of wide white wall tires for my 58. What is the stock size? What size looks better if not stock size? Who has the best deals? Pics anyone?

If you are keeping the original wheels the service manual shows 6:70/15 or 6:50/16 sizes. I think you can get these size bias-ply tires from Coker, Diamondback, Lucas Tire, and maybe others if you want to stay original. I'm not sure exactly what that size would equal to in current tire designations. I think you can expect to spend over $800 for a set regardless of where you get them.

Thought it would be about that much or more. What size white wall is popular? 3-4"?

I'm not sure how many widths are available in the size you need. These are three inch portawalls. I think four inch would be way too wide and look too old for an AD truck. I would have bought real whitewalls but the tires on the truck are too good to get rid of so I'll live with them for now.

Heres some pikkys of our 48 truck. Its got Jaguar suspension front & rear, and has US wheels bought from Summit - 15*8s on the rear and 15*6 on the front.

Tyres are Goodyears 235/75R/15s at the back and 195/60R/15 out front.

I don't think so. I'm running 8" Corvette wheels and that's the size I have. I think stock wheels are 5" and would be too narrow for that size tire.

Re: White wall tires? Pics please

In this part of the world, it would not be legal to run anything wider than 205/70R/15 on a 5 inch rim, and its recommended that we use a 7.5 inch rim

Heres a link to our rules, which are good guide for you too.

TX58, I just saw your build thread, you have a really nice truck. I didn't realize any TF's were that rust free, LOL.

Re: White wall tires? Pics please

Oh, it had a little rust. Did my best to get it fixed. Ok, I'll check the rim size and use the largest tire I can get away with.
Thank

Over the decades the wheels have changed. The bead design has changed from a bias ply type to a safety bead to a radial tire design.

Putting Radial tires on a stock 50's era wheel is not a good idea as the bead shape and lack of safety bead lock would result in air leaks when cornering and debeading of the tire from rim in hard cornering.

The 235/75Rx15 is also to wide for the stock rim. A 7X15 rim would be just right.
