BIG project drive train

i got me a 87 r30 and i wana make it 4 wheel drive and i got a 1980 k35 for a parts truck. the 87 has a 383 stroker, 4speed and will soon be a nv4500 i got the adapters from aa so the np205 will bolt right up. the 80 has a 454, 400, np205, and a dana 60 and all the other small parts i need

my question is will the spring hangers from the 80 fit on the 87. and the rear shackle is there a hole for it in the 2wd frame, should i cut one out, of fab up a bracket that bolts or weld to the bodom of the frame, i dont wont a lift but level i can live with. i know i got to tear it down to just frame hornes and a crossmember im keeping my sterring box on for crossover steering, i got a **** ton of body parts im swoping over so i might as well pop the cab and paint the frame spray bedliner on the underbody all in all its a big project and i havent found a forum for the 2wd to 4x4 convertion but i have seen one for the nv4500 swop but yea lots of pics coming when i get home and start on this

Re: BIG project drive train

that 80 k35 will have a figure 8 np205, and AA's nv4500 205 adapter is for an 85+ round pattern np205. you dont need the adapter from AA if you swap he 80 short input gear into the 85+ 205 case. this will replace the long input gear and not need the spacer to take up the difference.

also there is no hole for the shackle in the 2wd frame. you will need to do that, but all of your k35 parts will go right onto that frame with a little sweat.

Re: BIG project drive train

Why dont you just swap the 87 body over to the 80 frame? The body mounts are different between the 80 and 87, but as long as all of the frame mounts are the same and you use the body mounts for the frame year then the body will swap right over. Or is the 87 a crew cab? If you still want to do the 4x4 conversion you will have to find 81+ front core support/spring mounts to do the conversion. I converted my Crew cab to 4x4 take a look at my build thread in my sig.

Re: BIG project drive train

the aa kit i got was Product# 27-0032 its the only one they have for the 32 spline female np205 and the front hangers i could get a set of b52's from 4x
diy4x.com but it would give me a 4" lift but i can take springs out for a softer ride and yes the 87 is a crew cab long bed cab and chassis dually and the 80 is a straight cab it has a 12foot flat bed idk if its a cac my buddy says its a dana 70 under it but with a 12' bed makes me wonder so idk how long the frame really is but it would be nice to look at my trucks again but im diployed cant wate to get started on this swop i really wont to stray away from a lift because i wont to truck pull with it and they dont like blocks but a shackle flip kit in the rear could avoid that

Re: BIG project drive train

You can get te diy4x brackets and run standard front springs that will make it stock height and you won't have to worry about taking any springs out of a pack.

Re: BIG project drive train

52s and that little lift both will not let you use crossover. the drag link will hit the engine crossmember and everything else.

Re: BIG project drive train

i figured the springs where diffrent widths and the bracket was only made for the 52's but i do like the fact i can move the axle foward just a tad to center the wheel in the wheel well im shure i could call them up and order a costom set if anything and the last time i talked to them they has a templet to cut out the shackle eye with a plasma
