But i don't know what I want. Haul kids occasionally, camping, tow, fit atv, and DD.

I like suburbans, and 1 ton crew cab single axle 4x4s. There's three nearby I'm looking at. But theres pros and cons to all.

Had to switch to a computer so I could type I want a diesel 4x4 3/4 ton suburban with barn doors, in good condition. But I can't find all of that in one vehicle.

These are some I'm checking out. Not sure if I want to sacrafice the 3/4 diesel for the super clean 1/2 ton with a 350FI. I COULD put in 3/4 ton axles no problem, but how well would that 350 tow a camper?

Since it'll be a DD, if I end up road tripping with it, I would like the super clean 1/2 ton suburban, but ultimately pulling a camper 2300 miles I would want at least a 3/4 ton, if not a 1 ton. If I get that crew cab, I'd have to lower it and put no larger than 35s, or 33s for hauling a camper. But then a bunch of us in a crew cab wouldn't be as comfortable as a suburban.

And how well would a adult atv fit in a suburban, if it will. That'd be when I go camping, about an hour or so drive, the last 1/4 going up a mountain. No camper, campers are for road trips, not camping

I just want the diesel for mpg. It doesn't need super power. I can, if needed, go slow up hills. and 4x just when I go camping to get there, atvs for playing.

If I could find a 454 suburban, 3/4 ton (91 or older) FI to boot with barn doors, that'd be great too. I just say 91 cause they look cooler, parts are all over the place, cheap, and I'm very familiar with 80s GM

I don't have a camper yet, just looking towards the future, since at some point I'd love to find an old airstream, around 20-27ft and refurbish it. But so 7-9k lbs?

I don't neccessarily care about mpg. I have a 68 gmc with a v6 and 8mpg. Life's not about fuel milage, BUT, since I am looking, if I COULD find a diesel in good condition, why not.

I'll admit I'm biased, I bought a military Blazer with the 6.2 fell in love - the power is good but the mpg's are the real reason. I'd go with the first Burb you linked and get a paint job at MAACO. It's a driver, after all - right? Later on you can add the turbo and etc from a 6.5.

I've got all the stuff to turbo mine, but my other K5 is getting upgraded first. I'll get a bunch of heat for this, but that upgrade will net you more hp/tq than any FACTORY big block or small block it could have come with, and mpg's should easily exceed 20 mpg.

Ya I looked at companies who do the 6.5 turbo as well, and I like it, just not the price tag. Could always go the way of the cummins and 5 speed via a parts truck. Just trying to decide, do I want to put in running gear, drive lines brakes suspension and all that junk, or an engine and trans.

do I want a reliable runner up front, or all the goodies that are hard to find. I just want it all, is that too much to ask

You are looking for my suburban, only its not for sale. And it's a little rusty and banged up. The drivetrain sounds like what you want though. I have a 91 6.2l diesel with banks turbo and 700r4 trans. Has custom Alan spring lift, 14bff rear, Dana 60 front, 37" bfg km2's and running 4.56 gears, and the rear has a Detroit locker. I got 17 mpg driving exactly like it sits from Nashville to Detroit.

Well, it's obvious what you need to do...one of each
careful or youll wind up like me, a crew cab dually a travelall two swb's and wagon and a burb and something else to drive to work.

In all seriousness I would go for a 3/4 BB burb. i do see them around the northwest and theyre resonably priced for what you get. As much as i love my dually i could see selling it and getting a 3/4t burb.

Well I ended up with a K5, my buddies/roomates CUCV he gave up on, and that I did most of the work anyway. Part of the reason was the wife and I were tired of it being in the driveway, sitting there.

The 6.2 was bad when my buddy got it, so him and I put his 350 from his old 77 Jimmy in it.

Got it for $800, parts truck for $600, done a lot to it in the last couple weeks. New exhaust all the way down, headers to duals, off-brand flowmasters. Been driving for a good week now 33s from the parts rig (that camo 86 K5 in the background). Got the fan, shroud, radiator & mounts, driver's windows, door locks, and some other misc stuff off the rig, window antenna line to stereo. Had a nearly new 1406 Edlbrock and spacers I sold for $160, Def got my money back already, and I can sell/scrap the rest for a few more bucks.

I can still haul kids around, wouldn't road trip in it though. And for the ATV, I'll prolly get a small trailer, I'll still try to see if I can fit one in the back, at least when the tops off.

So 350/TH400/33s, not a bad start.



And the wife got a nice clean 93 Silverado 2500 ext cab 8' bed. So we still have something to tow and haul with. Worked out great, just not as planned lol
