Positraction on not

I have a 72 nova 10 bolt that I will be putting in my 55 second series truck. It looks like it will fit. An inch or two narrower than stock.
Should I go the extra bucks and install positraction or leave it non posi?
I am getting old and the truck will be used just to cruse around the neighborhood.

Imo, every vehicle needs to be locked or have the ability to lock. LSD, air locker, e locker, or straight plain. Open rear sucks.

Not needed but the Detroit Tru Trac is the best of both worlds, 2 wheel drive when you need it and acts like an open diff going around corners until you put the hammer down.

If it's going to be just a cruiser IMHO you wont miss the posi.

Unless you plan on driving it off road or during inclement weather (ice, heavy rain) or racing it posi is not needed. Won't hurt anything if you want the bragging rights. Some units can be noisey or clunky. hard core off road guys use air lockers or similar to get absolute locking and control of when it engages.

I am running an open in my 59. I like it better than when I had a locker. Easier on tires and it tended to want to push the truck while making turns but that might have something to do with the 15.5" wide tires I am running.

That is why the 4wd guys use air lockers, its a common problem. Unlock the rear for a second and let the front drive pull you in the direction you want to go, then reconnect when you need traction.

I can do a pretty good one wheel peel. with all the smoke most people are shocked its only one wheel. Here's a pic from a burn out contest.

Stay away from a locker for strictly street. they can be a pain on the street. I ran a detroit locker for 30 years in my 684wheel drive.' They are easier to control with a manual transmission by releaseing the clutch. but they still are kind of unpredictable. The True Track is Tourque sensing and are not violent like the automatic lockers.
for moer common used look for Posi Trac or Pontiac safety Trac. Olds had some odd ball rears. so avoid them unless you know what you are looking for.
