Last resort K20 '71 - hydraulic assist conversion?
I only have 11 to 13 inches of vacuum. I have replaced everything but the PV. The pedal depresses as the engine starts, but it is rock hard and stays that way, when I hit the pedal. I added an electric vacuum pump and canister, it helped but I still can't do an emergency stop. I was on gravel and hit the pedal as hard as I could and the truck came to a rolling stop (no lock up). I drive it in the mountains and I want to pull a trailer, but I'm affraid to.

Re: Last resort K20 '71 - hydraulic assist conversion?
Whoops, I sent before finishing. I know the pressure will increase dramatically to the wheels. I have upgraded the flex lines to HP. I have disc/drum. Brothers has a complete kit for $500. Any thoughts and/or suggestions?
Thanks in advance. |

Re: Last resort K20 '71 - hydraulic assist conversion?
After a bunch of research, I narrowed the field to Brothers (remanufactured), CPP (expensive) and ABS power brakes. I'm going with ABS. They will build the system in a day or two and ship next week. He described my problems to a "T" - Hard pedal, no lock-up, long stopping distance. The price was $235 less than CPP. I will install in the next week or two, then advise on the progress.
