"Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
I just got my 70 truck less then 3 days ago, and i need some very simple help with buying parts.. I appologize to the long time, hard core group for such stupid questions, but here goes!!
I have a 70 C-20 and went to buy shocks at LMC and heres what i ran into.. My truck says the follwing int he Glove box.. Vin CE240Z Model CE20934 Glove box says Custom Outside emblum says Custom/20 Inner glove box decal says this.. F60 HD Front Spring G70 R Susp rear spring G50 HD rear spring F52 Front shock F59 front stab EQ Z62 cust comf conv EQ Now LMC says for the front shocks Except custom camper and HD. now even thow it doesnt say Camper anywhere, i should always assume when ordering i have a HD truck? what does Z62 option contain... Ialso am searching for a bed mat i see on many trucks, do they make them for my year? I cant find them in either summit or LMC Thank You Paul

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
stolen from another thread...
Lower intermediate trim (Option code Z62) Trim theme: This trim was a minor upgrade of the base trim described above. A little more chrome dressed up the outside. Inside, the most significant upgrades involved the use of a color keyed floor mat (vs. the basic black noted above, with carpeting only in very special cases) and a choice of "custom cloth" or "custom vinyl" upholstery. These two seat upholstery choices were shared with the higher level (Z84 and YE9) trim packages mentioned below. Interestingly, other woven/striped vinyl upholstery selections were exclusively available on this trim level in various years and included carpeting to replace the usual color keyed vinyl mat. Also, there was a little more floor insulation, and the door panels differed only slightly from base with very minimal wood grain or chrome molding additions. Still, no headliner. also known as Z62 : CONVENIENCE PKG, COMFORT & DECOR LEVEL #l

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
just so you are aware I checked up on that part # and you have to cut that yourself to fit your bed, and according to the directions you have to drill holes in your bed to keep it down, or use automotive velcro

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
I went with the KYB 565032 MonoMax Heavy Duty Monotube Shock for my '72 C20 Custom Camper. According to the KYB website (http://showmetheparts.com/kyb) this shock works for your truck as well. Custom Camper or not, I recommend it for our 3/4 ton trucks.

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
I just found the set of shocks you were talking about in lmc. Id probably go with the kyb's also. I don't think I'd trust a pair of $30 shocks

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
IMHO--if you have a fairly good parts store near, go buy a pair of shocks there.
If you have a brand preference, tell them that. If you plan on hauling a mondo big camper or heavy loads, tell them. Nice easy cruising, let them know. You have what was probably ordered as a family vacation vehicle suitable for hauling a camper...we see the comfort items ordered (CC) plus some handling upgrades (sway bar). Good thing about ordering locally is not only the no-wait but eventually the guys will know what you drive and automatically choose the right part. If ordering day to day parts for the truck on line is your preference, check with RockAuto. Great customer service, awesome prices and rarely wrong. BTW-I run KYB fronts & Monroe rears on my leaf-sprung C-10. Love them both. .

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
Let me start by saying, I have never purchased from LMC. While the catalog is good for reference, I have heard a bunch of members questioning service and quality of parts.
If you need replacement shocks, filters, brake pads, try locally first. Some stores have knowledgeable people while other have to punch year make and model into the computer and cant deviate... We also have a great bunch of vendors on this board that can get you almost anything you need… |

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
I do the same thing. I got a catalog shipped to me and love to leaf through it for things I need or could fix, but when it comes to actually buying I check around with the vendors here. They are all very helpful and usually much cheaper.

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
Is there a link for the vendors? Where on here are they listed?

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
I've used LMC for parts before, and never had any "issues" to speak of.
Before I'd order shocks over the internet... I'd try a local parts store. I have been using Monroe shocks on the old rigs for eons with no probs in performance or fitment. The only time I've used different shocks... is on my drag rigs. Gary

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
Technically he is correct for the front (there is a difference for the rear if you have leaf springs). However, you want to match your shocks to your springs. Since you have heavy duty springs, you'll want to put on heavy duty shocks.

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
So the only real differance between a c10 light duty and a c 20 heavy duty is all internal? A light duty will fit but really cant do the job?
The rears have coil overs. If i replace the rear onces with non coil overs, will the ride change? It's kinda harsh now?

Re: "Newbie" Needs Help buying parts.
All the trucks atre "light duty". Only difference in rear springs is the length and mount locations from leaves to coils.
My '72 had coilover shocks in the rear (leaf sprung), and I replaced them with non-coilover shocks. I like the ride way betterer. Gary
