Wow.What a difference !
I just replaced my leaky, sloppy, old steering box with a Redhead rebuilt. And man what a diifference, I guess i never realized how sloppy the old one was. If anyone is thinking about doing this,I think you'll be amazed at the results. Now with the front sway bar and toyo's,I'm carvin curvy roads like you wouldn't believe it really holds and tracks nice.I came across Redhead from the Dodge Cummins forums where they have had trouble with some later model boxes holding up.These dudes know their stuff.Google them and read thru Ford,Chevelle,Dodge any forums and their well known. Plus for me they were close in Seattle so turn around time was nill. Way better than a Napa or O'reilley's rebuilt God knows where box.

Re: Wow.What a difference !
Sounds good. I may do this with mine if they are local. What did it cost you?

Re: Wow.What a difference !
How would a steering box get loose in the first place?

Re: Wow.What a difference !
All steering boxes get loose with age. The groove the recirculating balls and worm gear sit in get worn and create slop

Re: Wow.What a difference !
Wear is inherent to the design of a gear box, that is why they have and adjustment on them. The trouble is not all areas of the gears wear eveningly so adjusting at one point might make it tight at another.

Right about 3 hundred...I'm sure there around alot cheaper. But,i could not find a bad review anywhere on these guy's.Only having to do it once is worth alot to me.You may be able to get better price without shipping core's and stuff since your real close.I think their out in west Seattle.

Re: Wow.What a difference !
I found that just replacing the front sway bar bushings was the most dramatic improvement in steering and front end handling I got. I used an AutoZone rebuild (before I knew about GM OEM online vendors) and it did improve the steering some, but not a lot. Several years ago the core charge was so high I only paid about $30 on the rebuilt swap. For that price, I can convince myself that I have vastly improved steering.
