New member with a new '64 fleetside
Hello all, I joined this forum a bit back when I started truck shopping and now that I have one I thought I'd introduce it.
It is a '64 c10 fleetside longbed that appears to be the most basic truck you could buy from Chevy. It has a 230 inline & 3-spd on the column. It doesn't seem to have a single option or extra, no passenger sun visor, no passenger key lock, no passenger mirror, no *center* mirror, nothing. And aside from a seat cover over the good original seat nothing has been changed or messed with over the years. I am in RI and found the truck in NH. The guy I bought it from buys stuff to flip(and was completely honest about that) so the only thing he did was to to redo the bed floor in exterior plywood. The guy he got it off though was planning to restore it until money ran out and had already gone through the drivetrain and mechanicals and fixed any issues so it starts instantly, shifts well and stops amazingly. The only thing it needs is some new tires(worn bias-plys currently) and an alignment. The body is pretty good with some rot in the usual places. The floors have been previously patched, but while they were made from sheet metal they look to have been welded in right. None of the other spots appear to be structural so I can get to them when I get to them. Basically it is exactly what I wanted in a truck. A nice simple 6-cyl manual truck that I can enjoy and improve without having to fix the bad decisions & poor maintenance of past owners. Right now the only pics are from the ad, as the pics from going to look at it didn't come out well and I'm not picking it up til Thursday. |

Nice truck! That's the best kind, original, minimal PO mods! Good luck with her.

Thanks for the complements and welcomes everyone.

Does anyone know what the color likely is? And if so anyone know where I can get some in spray cans so I can touch up as I do the metal work? A full repaint won't be in the budget for a few years at least. |

Re: New member with a new '64 fleetside
Welcome to the forum. As everyone else has mentioned that’s a very nice looking truck. It’s getting far less common to find one that hasn’t been modified by a string of previous owners.
Also, your local paint store can mix up matching automotive paint and load it into regular rattle cans, but it can get expensive.

Re: New member with a new '64 fleetside
Just got home with the truck. Aside from some headlight weirdness(1) she preformed great. I do want to get rid of the bias-plys ASAP though.
(1) Guy was showing me the dimmer switch location and pushed the switch, and now it has only high beams and parking lights. |

Re: New member with a new '64 fleetside
So cool! The rocker layin' jobs are all the rage, but there's nothing with more OG soul than a truck that's still a truck. And the simple plain-janers are just that much cooler. Loving it .. LOVING IT!

Re: New member with a new '64 fleetside
and let the fun begin, take some time to get to know her just the way she is, you will get a feel for what you want to do as you become intimate with the old girl

Re: New member with a new '64 fleetside
The color chart for '65 won't help. THe '65 Fawn (525 code) is not the same color as the '64 Fawn (528 code).'65 Fawn color is darker than the lighter '64 Fawn color.Welcome to the site Improbcat, check your "For Economical Transportation" tag located on lower left inside kick panel for paint code. Should be 528. 1964 Fawn was a one year only color, not like the light blues, light greens and reds that were used for multiple years. Rattle cans are available in this color.http://www.automotivetouchup.com/cho...l=All%20Models

Re: New member with a new '64 fleetside
I took some pics of the truck, and the areas that need work.
The rocker & inner rocker are rotted out here, the other side seems intact but there is some bondo cracking so I need to dig further into it. Fender bottoms rotted out. Fender has rust at the front, and rear, and the inner fender has some serious rust near the front. I'm going to try fabricating patch panels before I consider replacing these. If nothing else it'll be good welding practice. Door rust, and surface rust on previously patched floors. Tailgate has rot, and the PO ground off the paint randomly then didn't do anything. I've since hit this with primer to at least keep it from surface rusting. It is hard to see here, but the roof has some dents and the drip rail has been bashed back roughly to shape. In the very long term I'll need to get this straight, but for now I just need to make sure it is not leaking water into the roof. Hood edge is, of course, rotted out. |
