Using backup cameras for spotting
So I normally have to wheel alone, nothing treacherous but at times it'd be nice to have a spotter. I was thinking of using this camera kit to spot myself, both screens in the mirror can be active at the same time, with the cameras mounted under the truck to spot my front and rear tires. Any opinions on this?
The cameras have IR for low light situations, and are weather proof. |

Re: Using backup cameras for spotting
I have seen some trucks with huge lifts use a camera front and rear to cover the blind spots. If you mount them in a place you can see good and not damage them it should work.

Re: Using backup cameras for spotting
I think it's a great idea. I have a similar camera mounted on my K5 used for snowplowing. The rear glass tends to ice-over and visibility out the back is nonexistent at times. The IR camera works incredible at low light too. An issue for me is it is illegal to drive with a operative screen device in my state; I hard-wired the trigger wire (designed to go to the reverse switch) to a toggle so I can activate the camera when plowing.

Re: Using backup cameras for spotting
What would be the best configuration? Both mounted on the bumpers facing in towards the truck, mounted under the truck facing out or 1 of each?

Re: Using backup cameras for spotting
I'm thinking havine of of each, so they are both pointed at the front of the tires. The front one mounted to the under side of the bumper and the rear one mounted under the bed pointed back.
