Re: sleeper work truck?
Use factory turbos out of a bone yard and fabricate the brackets and stuff. Way over my head (cause I just aint that interested) but it has been done many times to good effect.

This is more my idea of a sleeper work truck. There is a BBC hiding in there in case you were wondering...

Re: sleeper work truck?
Here it is in action for some more laughs,,,the horn is the best. Here comes the train,,,haha. It just takes "sleeper" to the extreme,,,,mud flaps, dents and rust, and even a rag hanging out of the gas fill to give the illusion he's too cheap to buy a new gas cap. Classic!!!

Re: sleeper work truck?
Here are some good questions to answer .
1. How big of a budget ? 2. Fuel injected or carb 3.how much boost ? What kind of work has been don to the engine to do a good turbo set up the lower compression the better also E85 is the magic juice . You can buy cheap turbo kit's off china bay for anything |

Re: sleeper work truck?
The carb you have might work for blow through you need to research the interwebs are a beautiful thing .
If you look into megasquirt you can do EFI and build a complete standalone system . The perfect compression ratio is 8.5:1 the lower the better . you will want to use a external wastegate and a Blow off valve Here is some good info http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...e/viewall.html you really need to do some homework so you donot create a baked potato on a stick |

Re: sleeper work truck?
This was my sleeper work truck,a '78 Scottsdale30 w/a healthy-built 454. I owned it in the '80s when Toyota came out with supposed 1 tons. My tag read WON TON and on the tailgate (you know how Toyota put a bibliography on their tailgates?) I had lettered: "No Turbo No Fuel Injection Just One Big Stinkin' Quadrajet!" . I'll never forget how I shut down a 79-81 Z28 on a roll with all my scaffold strapped on and material hanging out the bed (also strapped down). He just couldn't get by me. That big block had more than he had,no matter how hard he tried.

At the time I knew it ran "okay" but it has always been meant as a tow vehicle. It was the stock 454 long block, with a performer camshaft, performer intake, headers, and tweaked distributor and carb. In the early 90's on the street it would run with 5.0 mustangs and Iroc's of the day,,,Hillarious That engine expired last year with 100,000 miles on it so I installed a crate 502 that dyno'd 377hp/540tq and definately runs stronger than the ole 454. It's turned into a real ball to drive now. It's been many years but I think it's going to make another pass down the strip for giggles. I'm betting low 14's won't be out of the question. I guess you could say it's a sleeper. |

Re: sleeper work truck?
I honestly don't remember what exactly was done. Back then,we had a world class speed shop complex at our disposal. All in different buildings but on the same property was Coleman Bros. Speed Shop, who had a top shelf machine shop run by Tom and Dave Coleman...a couple true wizards. Tom would whip up diagrams drawn upside down for you to see while he explained it. Out front was Ladd's Porting Service and House Of Balance. You could get a fine blueprinted engine between all three places.

Re: sleeper work truck?
Awesome !!!! That reminds me of my Dad's 77 1/2 2wd 454 long box. I learned all about BBC with that truck back when I was a teenager back in the 80's. That truck was a sleeper for sure!!!!! I did alot of street racing in that old **** brown Chevy It would eat up 5.0 Mustangs all day long and could twist the 100mpd speedo back to zero I beat the piss out of that 454 and it just kept on going. Finaly in the mid 90's the TH400 couldn't hold up anymore. That was after 220,000 miles.
