Sold My Truck. (PICS)
She was a sweet 64 Short Fleet that I searched 9 long months for on CL to find. I owned her 7 years. She always started up and ran great. She was dialed. Built 350, turbo 400 auto, 3.73s w/ posi, C-notched, hidden hitch, power steering, disc brakes, even power seats! She had everything!
I drove it to prom (and made a 'stop' on the way home). I made old people scoff, adults smirk, big kids laugh, and little kids cry. I pissed off my neighbors, every morning. I'll always regret selling her. But I guess that's just one rite of passage on the way to becoming an old man. Cheers to the next chapter of my life! I'll miss you old gal! |

Dude, had trouble seeing the truck, someone else kept catching my eye
So why did you sell it?

Re: Sold My Truck. (PICS)
Are you saying old men can't own one of these trucks? You're gonna piss off alot of members with comments like that. I think there are better ways to make your rite of passage than to sell your truck. It may be something you'll regret when YOU become an old man.

Re: Sold My Truck. (PICS)
My dad always told stories about selling his first MG race/street car to pay for the roof on our family home back in the day.... and he always had a look on his face that said "it was the right thing to do, but it made me sad"
I hit a "crisis" point in life with getting older and getting sick, but frankly I couldn't sell the truck even if it WAS the right thing to do. Whether its memories, delusions, hope, or whatever...the truck still means to much. Part of getting older is realizing that nothing about life changes around you, you change within it.

I guess I'm regressing. I bought my truck two years ago and I'm 46!

You gotta do what you gotta do... Part of life I suppose. When you are my age you will wish like hell you still had it and go out and find another just like it. It's a vicious cycle.

Re: Sold My Truck. (PICS)
I hear you man. I'm only 25 but, have gone through several cars since I was 16. They come and go and sometimes you just have to do it. Last car I sold was my 1966 Nova when I got out of the Army last year. I had to pay for my move to Washington state and buy more tools for my job. Now I'm contracting in Afghanistan and can afford another car. It happens. By the way do you live in Lakewood/Long Beach. The street signs and neighborhood look wicked familiar. I'm from Cerritos and my sister lives in Long Beach off Carson and Lakewood.

Not saying that at all. But almost every 'old' hot rodder I've talked to has told me a story about the car/truck they wished they had never sold...this one will be that story for me 20 years from now I'm sure. Sold it so I could finally finish building the boat I've been working on for the last year and a half. I fish commercially for a living, so the boat's more important. This truck spent the last 7 years around the LAX area, and in Santa Barbara. I sold it to a guy in West LA. I'm already day-dreaming about my next truck, looking on CL, etc. The hunt is half the fun! Next one (in a few years god willing) will probably be a mean lifted K20. |

Re: Sold My Truck. (PICS)
sorry to see it go, but i completely understand...hopefully things will work out great for you in the future, & you'll have an opportunity to find another to replace her (the truck)...and great seeing your girl getting her hands dirty & hopefully enjoying your hobby with you; not just a pretty face...i'd say she's a keeper ....good luck with the boat!

Re: Sold My Truck. (PICS)
Well, good luck to ya. I kinda understand having to sell to cover living expense. I had to sell my 1st 4x4 65 Chevy for those reasons. I kinda regret selling it, but I really regret selling my 66 LWB FS BBW when I moved outta CAlif in 1998.

Re: Sold My Truck. (PICS)
I've owned and sold quite a few street rods over the years and missed most of them at some point in time, but most were sold to finance house improvements and/or fund another car build. If your helper is as enthusiastic about building a boat as she was in assisting with the truck you'll do just fine no matter what your next project turns out to be. Good luck.

Re: Sold My Truck. (PICS)
I here you man ...
I too had to sell my truck, a '63. It was one of coolest in my town, the one that got me 'here' to this addicting hell-hole .... - - But it was done to move my family into an actual 'home' .... I must say, the "Rock-a-Billy" was a fun little truck: - -
