5.3 swap questions
so ive had a 5.3 and 4l60e transmission for about 3 months or so now.
i got motor trans full harness pcm and some type of sbc mounts for the conversion. not sure what brand but it was apart of the packge. also got some 317 heads off a badly cracked 6.0 landed all this for 800$ right now ive got 1000 saved up and im not sure where to start heh. id like a cam and tune and this and that but dunno if thats in the budget. not sure how far 1k would get me into this swap heh any suggestions on a poor mans starting spot?

Re: 5.3 swap questions
With only 1k at your disposal, I would work on simply getting it together, cleaned up and in running order. You'll have up to half of that in incidental items, removing vats, misc hardware, driveshaft etc. Once its in and running, then look at getting the fun stuff.
If you do want to get a cam you could do something like a used z06 cam and those 317 heads. It may not be the MOST potent combo, but its very popular as a platform for turbo ls swapped cars, should you decide to get to that level at any point. Really, 1k$ isn't gonna go far if the engine isn't even in and running yet.

Re: 5.3 swap questions
the 5.3 it self has 862 heads on it i know the 317 are good boost heads for turbos etc. i spend some time and read on ls1trucks.com
so used tbss manifolds fit right in correct? cant really afford the pacesetters headers yet. i guess its not to hard to do a cam swap later on could even do a ls6 intake swap at the same time. but with 1k i could get it damn close to running i suppose?

Re: 5.3 swap questions
I was under the impression you can't put 6.0 heads on a 5.3?

Re: 5.3 swap questions
Plenty of threads on ls1tech using it; I thought it was the l92 stuff that couldn't be used on anything smaller then the 6.0 because of the 4" bore
crazyjester- 1k should get you running with what you already have, provided you can stick to a plan. TBSS manifolds fit easier than prob anything else.

Re: 5.3 swap questions
317's unfortunately wont work on a 5.3. Combustion chamber is way too big. Look for 706's. The ls6 243 heads are good as well, but for the money a worked 5.3 head flows just as well for less $$.

Re: 5.3 swap questions
well the heads on the 5.3 i have are 862
the 317s are on a cracked 6.0 block. so im guessing getting the vats removed and i guess a retune ? what does it cost to get the vats removed?
